The Valentine Golf Tournament Results

The Nashville/Music City Chapter held, finally, their second “pop-up” tournament of the 2022 season at President’s Reserve in Old Hickory, TN.  The tournament was previously scheduled for Valentine’s Day weekend, but extended, sub-freezing temperatures forced the course to tarp their greens to protect them.  Forty players over 5 divisions competed for VISA gift cards and a trophy for the champion.

In Division one, Brian Kopinski carried a one-stroke lead to the back nine after posting an even par 36.  Tyler Sharpe of the Kentucky chapter lurked as he made the turn in 37 strokes.  Sharpe posted four birdies against one bogey to shoot three-under on the back nine and was able to surpass Kopinski for first place.  Sharpe posts the low-round of the tournament with a two-under round of 72 to win by two strokes.

In Division two, Tom Foster started of red hot with a two-under start over his first six holes and finished the front nine at one-over 37.  John Hipp stayed within reach posting a two-over 38 on the front nine.  Hipp was able to even the score with a birdie on the par 4 10th.  Foster and Hipp remained tied until an untimely bogey by Foster on the par 4 16th.  Hipp was able to par his last four holes and was in-the-clubhouse with a one-stroke lead.  Foster finished his round off with a birdie on the par 5 18th to force a playoff with Hipp.  In the end, Hipp prevailed on the first playoff hole to take the victory.

In Division 3, the tournament came down to the short par 5 18th.  Four players were within reach to capture the win, but it proved difficult to close it out.  John Mangels was tied for the lead, but a triple bogey pushed him out of the lead.  Jerry Drewry and William Downey were also tied for the lead, but both players made bogey to finish tied for 2nd place.  Peyton Massey, who bogeyed the 18th as well, was able to hang on for his first victory on tour.

In Division 4, Matt Parker made the turn with a three-over 39 and held a four-stroke lead over Tennessee East chapter member, Daniel England.  Matt was able to get it into the house to finish with an 84 and capture the victory.

In Division 5, Will Houston finished his front nine with a triple bogey on par 5 8th and a double-bogey on the par 4 9th to make the turn in 46.  Houston was able to flip-the-script and post an exceptional back nine that propelled him to the win over Thurman Boyd.
