Spring Bash Golf Tournament at Las Vegas National

[read_time]

The Las Vegas APT Chapter hosted the 2-day 2022 Spring Bash at the iconic Las Vegas National Golf Course.   Despite wind gust of over 30 mph on Saturday, Sunday’s weather was perfect, and the course was in championship condition.  Several winners decided coming down the stretch.

Division 1 Champion – Kevin McEvoy  [157]

With multiple lead changes most of the weekend, division 1 was decided with some very steady play and a couple must up and downs for Kevin to secure the victory over second place finisher Garret Kieffer [160] – Garret did shoot a 73 on Sunday for the low round of the tournament.

This is Kevin’s second victory in a row – the last was the Battle at the Revere, where tough wind conditions as well .   Kevin is a solid player who loves playing on the APT tour and is making a huge push for player of the year.

Division 2 Champion – Zach Smith [170]

Traveling from the APT Texas tour, Zach played great in the Saturday wind, then followed it up with steady play on Sunday to hold off charging Dave Larson [173 total, 76 on Sunday] to secure the victory.   Zach said this is his first victory on the tour and has his plans ready to bring home several more this year.

Division 3 Champion – Kody Conover [172]

Not much is more exciting than handing the trophy to this player.   Kody was in a battle most of the day with his playing partners trying to chase him down, but in his post tournament interview Kody said, “once I get out front, good luck catching me”.  This is Kody’s third win of the season and is moving up the national points race as he has his sights set on Nashville in this Fall.    Kevin Pietsch [178] took second and Ernie Alaan [180] was third.

Division 4 Champion – Jimmy Izeluk  [ 175]

Another exciting champion as this is Jimmy’s first victory on the APT tour.   In the windy conditions on Saturday, Jimmy played steady and took a nice lead into Sunday’s round .   Jimmy  held off multiple APT champion Michael Haas [178]   to secure his first championship.

In his post round interview, Jimmy stated, “I love this tour and can’t wait to tee it up again”  Look out for Jimmy at next month’s tournament at Wolf Creek.

Division 5 Champion – Michael Cosselman  [197]

This is an APT Tour player that is on fire.   Michael was exchanging led positions all day with his playing partners but came through in the end for the 3 shot victory over second place Michael Moore [ 200] .    This is Michaels third win this season as he won at Silverado in Napa and two wins here in Las Vegas.

I had the pleasure of following this final group yesterday for a few holes and all four players exude what it is to be an Amateur Players Tour Member.    All four were neck and neck until the very end and each on of them were cheering for their playing partner to hit the best shot possible.   This is true sportsmanship at the highest level.  Yes , they all want to win, but they want to beat the course.

Congratulations to Michael Cosselman for the victory and to Michael Moore, Wesley Raynor and Matt Coleman for your sportsmanship.

Senior Net Champion – Michael Haas

With a final birdie on the 18th hole, Michael Haas took first place over second place finisher and tournament sponsor Geno Saurez.     This was a battle that went back and forth all day  but Michael prevailed for his second Senior Net championship.

Congratulations to all the Champions and we look forward to seeing everyone at World famous Wolf Creek Golf Course in May.
