Hartefeld National Golf Club Tournament Results

The Tom Fazio designed Hartefeld National provided a great test of tournament golf with sprawling Par 5’s and a variety of elevation changes.

In Division 1, Paul Hess came in as the betting favorite on his home turf but newcomer Chris Meares had other plans. Meares posted a tidy –1 under par front nine to take the lead while Hess piled up Pars to stay in touch. With a two shot lead, Meares stumbled on the 17th, posting a triple bogey allowing the steady round by Hess to force a playoff as both players posted scores of 74.

It was a cold damp morning on the first tee but Gil Moniz came in hot and dropped a +1 front nine to take a 2-shot lead. He kept up his stellar play finishing with as 76 to take his second title of 2022.

A solid group of division three veterans APT golfers filled the field at Hartefeld and like the rest of the divisions, the front nine separated the wheat from the chaff. Pete Farina(40) and Sal Tomczak posted the best front nine and started the back nine looking to settle the score. Tomczak dug himself a hole with triple bogey on ten giving Farina some daylight. Farina took the opening and rode it all the way to the finish line for the win.

It was a battle royal in Division 4 with 10 players all within 2 strokes of the lead after a difficult front nine. Dave Neder and Giovanni Morales both posted solid back nine scores of 42 with Morales taking his first APT victory.

As the weather rolled in and the slope rating took its toll, grinding out scores was the formula in Division 5. Jeff Brodsky took a 3 shot lead over Cathy Cheung after nine. He kept the axe to the grindstone as his competitors found trouble and added his first Philly Metro and second APT title of 2022.
