Soule Park Golf Course Tournament Results
The Amateur Players Tour’ SoCal Chapter made its inaugural visit to Soule Park for the Ojai Open presented by Grips on the Go on Sunday. An architectural hidden gem, Soule Park looks relatively benign on the scorecard- but gusty winds and a golf course prepped for a US Women’s Open qualifier made scoring a challenge. Drew Lowe, visiting from Oklahoma, was first out in Division 1- and was so unconvinced his 78 was good enough he left the golf course! Thankfully he wasn’t too far down the road when he got the winner’s call. Drew took home the framed custom pin flag and a $175 Visa Gift Card for his victory.
It was wide open in Division 2 halfway home, as the whole field was separated by just three shots. Rogelio Mendez was clinging to a one shot lead after a 38 with Twon Fullman one back, plus Matt Fegley and Chris Hanson two back. The cushion remained one heading to the difficult stretch of par 4’s 13 through 15. The lead would be exchanged multiple times before Rogelio’s steady performance resulted in a 78, good for a one shot victory over Matt and two over Twon. His win was good for a $175 Visa Gift Card and the pin flag!
Division 3 also came down to the last putt, as AJ Quintero (visiting from the Northern California Chapter) held on for a one stroke victory over Tour stalwart Jose Perez. AJ had it going, building a sizeable lead at just +4 through 13 holes, before a few stumbles late finished his final card of 81. Along with the pin flag AJ earned a $225 Visa Gift Card for his first APT victory- congrats AJ! Jose took home a $75 Visa Gift Card for second.
It was looking very likely that Division 4 would be going to a playoff between Ron Araiza and Felix Monjes at 89. Playing in one of the last groups, Larry Goetz had other thoughts, firing an APT career low of 83 to run away with the victory! His rock-steady round included two birdies at the challenging 6th and 15th holes. Larry took home the pin flag plus a $200 Visa Gift Card for his first APT victory- congrats Larry!
Dennis McZeal took the challenge from the Native Oaks recap and was able to make his schedule work to attend Soule Park. Showing up proudly displaying his SoCal Masters headcover for the first time, he once again came home victorious- this time with a 92 that included a birdie on the par 5 11th. Dennis earned a $150 Visa Gift Card and the pin flag to put on his wall for his visit! Will anyone be able to beat him at Aviara?
