2nd Annual Barrett Edwards Memorial Golf Tournament Results

The 2nd Annual Barrett Edwards Memorial, Presented by: NUCOR STEEL Cold Finish Plant, was held this past weekend at the Country Club of South Carolina in Florence, SC. Proud to announce this was a sold out field. 60 players teed off on Day 1 of this 2 day regional event. We had players from 8 different Amateur Players Tour Chapters. Thanks for all of your support for this special event. Each Player received a APT Golf Umbrella and a gift bag from Nucor. They really went all out for our players. We also had a special drawing for Cleveland 2 Cleveland Zipcore wedges, Odyssey DFX Putter, 2 dozen Srixon Z Star Diamond Balls,  2UNDR Projekt Backpacks and Travel Kits thanks to Mr. Joey Pouch himself, Jack Curry.

All Winners received a Framed Special Commemorative Flag and all players finishing in the money, received payout in Visa Gift Cards. The Total Prize Fund paid out was incredible, $4920

Div 1 – Chris Collins of Myrtle Beach Chapter was the wire to wire winner. After Day 1 he held a 6 shot lead over our Very on Travis (ELVIS) Powel. Travis and Dan Constantino came to play in the final round but Chris held it together to take the crown with Travis and Dan tying for 2nd place. Chris received a Framed Commemorative flag and $300 card.

Div 2 – 14 players started out on Day 1 of this event. We had a surprise player come out of nowhere to take the title. This player normally tops it on the first tee in our events but this time he didn’t.  Mr. J Combs, Co-Owner of the Carolina Triad Chapter hit it down the middle on #1 and never looked back. He carded his best round to date in Rd 1 (74) and followed it up in Rd 2 with a 75 to win by 4 strokes over runner-up Travis Wartluft (Upstate). Needless to say, J Combs was picked on big time for his win. Kevin Lyles from the Charleston Tour continued his steady play to take 3rd with Don Sheads finishing 4th. J Combs pocketed $500, Travis - $210 and Kevin $125. Special thanks to Chris Patterson for his integrity. He noticed his Slope was on his range finder late in the round and told the players in his group and disqualified himself for this. Just a great example of someone protecting this great tour. He and Kevin would have been tied for 3rd. Thank you Chris.

Div 3 – There were 16 players in this division battling for the crown. Cecelia Barksdale Purvis, the 2021 Winner successfully defending her title to become the first repeat winner of this event. After round 1 was complete there was a 3 way tie at the top. Cecelia, Rick Lee and Kevin Harper all shot 80. Cecelia played steady I rounded on round 2 to retain her crown. Joseph Jones (Columbia) made a charge up the leader board to take 2nd with Rick Lee and Chris Minar tying for 3rd. Warren Hackler (Clayton) rounded out the top 5. Ceceila earned $575, Joseph - $240 and Rick Lee - $145, he received 3rd place, tie was broken by card.

Div 4  - 12 players began round 1. Our very on  2021 Player of the Year and newest member of the Srixon Team, regained his form from 2021 to put together 2 solid rounds (80/83) to win by 5 over Tyler Hutchens who played his best of the season as well and finish 2nd for the 2nd time this season. I firmly believe he will get his first win before long. Chris Huge continued to finish in the money by taking 3rd and Sean Mason took 4th. Special thanks to Chris and Sean for their contributions for this event. Brian Raymond received $430, Tyler Hutchens -  $180 and Chris Huge -  $100

Div 5 – 13 players were scheduled to start in Round 1 on Saturday. We had one player who couldn’t make the trip over, so 12 were battling it out for the crown. Greg Dover (MB) continued his steady play and he and the eventual winner Steven Reeves (Charleston) were tied after Day1 at 93 with Steven Daniels (Charlotte) one shot back. Steven Reeves shot 89 in final round to pull away. Steven Daniels finished 2nd and Greg Dover slipped to 3rd but still took home a gift card. Zach Shakleford finished 4th.  Steven Reeves received $460, Steve Daniels $200 and Greg Dover $120. We were honored to have Austin Edwards (Barrett’s son and my Godson playing in his first event)
