Monticello Golf Course Tournament Results

The Amateur Players Tour-Upstate Chapter teamed up with the Amateur Players Tour - Augusta Chapter and took on the challenge of Monticello Golf Course.

This may be one of the best hidden gems in the state. Located on Lake Thurmond and next to Hickory Knob state park, Monticello is an oasis for golf enthusiasts.

The course is in excellent condition from tee to green. The members and staff were accommodating and welcoming to our members and players as they were treated to one of the best courses in the region.

Division 5 was the only division requiring extra holes to determine our champion. Carlos Brown (45-46-91) would grab the lead after the front nine. Russell Loyd (47-44-91) and Derek Kemp (47-48-94) would be two shots off the lead at the turn. While Derek fell off the pace, Russell was making a charge on the back nine. Carlos did his best to hold off the chasers on the closing nine but would settle for a tie with Russell after 18. Both players would head back to the course to break the tie. Carlos found himself in a difficult situation after his tee shot. Russell would be able to cruise to victory after a one hole playoff.

Division 4 would turn into a battle for second. Jimmy Sullivan (40-45-85) found himself one shot off the pace as he carded two birdies on the day. Justin Bennett (40-44-84) would find himself tied for the lead after nine. The back nine would prove difficult to navigate as Justin would finish tied for second. Roy Williams (42-42-84) continues his solid play as consistency would be his game on this day. Roy would win the scorecard playoff and take second place money. Today was for one of our young guns. Recently promoted to Division 4, Jace Calhoun (40-41-81) would make the turn tied for the lead. Setting his eyes on the victory, Jace would stretch his lead on the back nine and break 80 on tour, Jace would come up short on the scoring goal, but would secure the victory by three shots.

Division 3 became a race of two after the first nine holes. Wes Pender (40-42-82) and Bryan Wimberly (39-42-81) would find themselves separated by one shot after the opening nine with Bryan in the lead. Both players would share  or trade the lead at least three times on the back nine as the round unfolded. It was exciting as players from other divisions kept watching the battle unfold. Wes would come up short and settle for second. Bryan was tested all day and was able to take home the trophy.

Division 2 saw a familiar name rise to the top of the leaderboard. To be honest, it was a blowout. Wesley Jones (37-38-75) took advantage of the generous fairways and large receptive greens. Wesley would fire one of his better rounds of the year to win by eight.

Division 1 was the usual packed leaderboard after the opening nine. Ryan Smith (35-43-78) found himself in the lead with his under par opening nine. Tom Chambers (36-39-75) was one shot behind after nine. While Scott Roberts (37-39-76) and Adam Davis (37-37-74) found themselves two shots behind after the opening nine. Ryan would fall off the the pace on the challenging back nine. Scott made a couple of early mistakes on the back nine and would finish in third. Tom had his looks for birdie on the back but was unable to get the putts to fall and would settle for second. Adam would drop two shots at the tenth hole for his only dropped shot on the back. With a timely birdie on 13 and a five hole par streak was enough to secure his one shot victory.
