Flossmoor Golf Club Tournament Results
On the nicest day we have had in 2022 by far, our first weekday event was a huge hit with our field! Players had to dig into their closets to find their summer gear as we were pushing 85 degrees at the first tee.
Flossmoor Golf Club is a classic Chicago golf course with a ton of history dating back to 1899. Our group was very well taken care of and the course proved as challenging as ever.
In Division 1, Matt Minder (Decatur, IL) jumped out to a 4-stroke lead at the turn, birdied 10, and then managed the course down the stretch to withstand a late charge by Nicholas Heller (Lexington, IL). Heller put the pressure on with 6 straight pars on the back 9, but Minder’s 80 was enough to win the event by 3 strokes.
Division 2 newcomer Brian Bonic (Dyer, IN) fired a 78 on the strength of a 2-over front 9 to separate himself from the pack. He managed to sidestep a few landmines on the back 9 to maintain his lead over Kirk Blakney (Joliet, IL) and Ryan Zambon (Cary, IL) to win the event by 6 strokes.
Division 3 has seen a fun early rivalry develop as Ronald Greaves (Chicago, IL) and Rey Sapnu (Orland Park, IL) were the Top 2 for the second straight event! This time Sapnu held the lead early, but a tough finishing stretch sent the event to a playoff with both golfers knotted at 91. Greaves won it on the first playoff hole to secure his 2nd straight event championship.
Our Division 4 event saw Rick Johnson (Decatur, IL) and Michael Wyatt (Bloomington, IL) battle back-and-forth throughout the front 9, with Wyatt holding a 1-stroke lead at the turn. Johnson’s Super Skin birdie on 11 gave him a 3-stroke lead and he never looked back, cruising down the stretch to shoot 90 and win by 7 strokes.
