2023 Stonebridge Meadows Golf Tournament Results

[read_time]

The rains were long gone when the sun came up Sunday morning, leading the way for a model day for tournament golf at Stonebridge Meadows in Fayetteville Arkansas.

Division 1 which has seen four different winners in four contests,  picked up its fifth as Fort Smith Arkansas and APT Tulsa member Rick Coatney, played steady golf over the 18-hole Stonebridge layout to pick up his first win and firmly cement himself as someone to watch in the tight POY race in Division 1.  Coatney moved up to fourth place in the current standings, just 46 points behind leader Ryan Nye.  Five players are separated by only 68 points in the race for Player of the Year.

Division 2 saw another event and yet another playoff for the win on Sunday at Stonebridge and what a playoff it was.  Filled with stunning shot making and missed opportunities, Bryan Hawkins and Jacob Casey put on a show for four extra holes before Hawkins 12-footer found the cup to steal the win from Jacob Casey.  Casey, who it appeared had the title in hand with a 40-foot eagle putt to 8”, leaving him a sure birdie, was stunned when Hawkins 30-footer for birdie found the bottom of the hole.  On the ensuing playoff hole, the tables were turned when Hawkins carelessly missed a two-footer opening the door for Casey to take the win, but Casey also lipped out his short putt and onward they went until Hawkins putting took over, draining the 12-footer for victory.  A disappointed Casey settled for second with points leader Keith Tilghman taking third after missing a short putt to put himself in the playoff on the 18th hole.  Like Division 1, D2 has also had 5 different winners in the first 5 tournaments and amazingly, the last four have all gone to playoffs.  The race remains tight in the hotly contested division as the year’s first major is up next at “The Club at Forest Ridge”.

Division 3  With D3 looking to be headed for a playoff, APT Arkansas’s Chris Meyers ran in his eagle putt to steal the win from Bruce Yi on the final hole of regulation and pick up his second win of the season, both off the APT Tulsa schedule.  After struggling the day before at “The Highlands”, Meyers found his groove at Stonebridge, finishing at +5 (77) to take the win.  Bruce Yi, Justin Lewis, Garye Myers and Michael Foster rounded out the top 5.

Division 4 also picked up a new winner as Michael King fired a tournament career best 78 to take the win from Patrick Goodnight, who also shot a career best 82 to take home second.  Jeff Corder of APT Arkansas, took the final podium spot, carding an 87 to take home third place.

Division 5 Brodey Young picked up his first win after knocking on the door at two other APT events by posting a 91 and holding off Larry Burrows, who finished runner-up for the second consecutive day with a 94.   Burrows made the trip up from Camden Arkansas to get in some play without the pressure’s of being the event director and it showed as his steady play netted two second place finishes.  Young places himself in the hotseat as the man to beat in the POY race for D5 heading into the years first major for APT Tulsa.

Senior Net Rick Coatney’s steady card of 78 took home the Senior net trophy as he picked up the first-place prize over Hot Springs Arkansas’s Jeff Corder.

We’d like to thank Taylor, Matt, and their staff at Stonebridge for their hospitality and preparation in making Stonebridge another part of the APT Tulsa inaugural season’s success.  Again, we want to  say “Thank You” to APT Arkansas Director Larry Burrows for making the five-hour trip up to Northwest Arkansas to play and lend a hand with the event.  We look forward to seeing everyone at APT Tulsa’s first major of the year at the beautiful “Club at Forest Ridge” on June 24th.
