The Amateur Players Tour-Birmingham kicked off the 2023 tournament season in Tuscaloosa, AL at Ol’ Colony Golf Club on March 4th, 2023. A sold-out field of 60 players battled it out on Jerry Pate designed golf course.
Division 1 had some great scoring with multiple players making the turn in red numbers. At the end of the day, Paul Garner carded a 70 (-2) to take the victory. Paul used five total birdies on the day to take a four-shot victory. Paul was awarded the trophy and the $210 prize. Paul also was crowned Senior Net champion and was awarded $250 for that victory. Congrats and great playing.
Division 2 was a one horse race most of the round with Tim Miller posting a 77 (+5) to take a three stroke victory. Tim had a rather up and down day with three birdies as well as three double bogies. Tim was crowned champion and was awarded the trophy and $290 in prizes.
Division 3 was a close battle all day long between three different players. After struggles coming in from all three players, Cain Campbell posted a score of 82 (+10) to take the victory over Jeff Taylor and Phil Lambert. Cain’s victory earned him the trophy and the $260 in prizes.
Division 4 went right down to the wire and at one point it looked like five different players were going to take the victory. Jason Bucher played the final four holes in two over par to pull away from the pack to take the one shot victory. Wilson Gammill, Colm Murphy, and Kenneth Robbins all tied for 2nd one shot back. Jason was awarded with eh trophy and the $210 in prizes.
Division 5 followed the theme of the day with not knowing the champion until the final hole. Jeff Noel and Bobby Arrighi were tied going into the final hole. Jeff made bogey to take the one shot victory over Bobby and was awarded the trophy and the $250 prize that went with it. Congrats Jeff on the victory.
The next stop for Birmingham is at one of the top notch semi private clubs in Northern Alabama. Gunter’s Landing will be hosting us on March 18, 2023 with tee times beginning at 10:00 AM. The field is starting to take shape and limited spots are still remaining.
