2023 Northstone Golf Tournament Results

100 Players braved the tremendous heat at Northstone CC in Huntersville, NC on Monday.  With a heat index over 100 degrees, the players were challenged with not only tough weather conditions but also tough course conditions as the Club hosted their club championship just a day earlier.  When players found their balls in the rough, they were forced to get the ball back into play. It made accuracy off the tee paramount on this day. 

In Division 1 we had 17 players start the day, It came down to the final hole and the rough conditions mentioned above to crown our victor on Monday.  Ivan Jones (Triad) was trailing by one stroke coming into the 18th hole.  Jacob Willieford (UPS) was leading by one, but his drive found the rough to the left of the 18th fairway and as a result was left with a very challenging decision.  In the end, Jacob ended up with a double bogie and Ivan made par to switch positions on the leaderboard.  Ivan’s score of 74 (+2) was 1 better than Jacob and BJ Humpries (UPS) who both carded 75’s (+3).

In Division 2, with 25 players in the field it was Mark Ballew (Triad) claiming victory with a score of 77 (+5).  J Combs (Triad was second with a score of 79 (+7).  Josh Johnston (CLT) was 3rd with a score of 80 (+8).  Tyler Phillips (CLT) moved up a few spots in the clubhouse as players fell back with the tough final 3 holes.  Tylers score of 81 (+9) was good for 4th.  Terry Newsome (Triad) and Chase Brown (CLT)  tied for 5th with scores of 82 (+10) 

On the Senior side, It was Terry Newsome that took home the top spot with Scott Nichols (CLT) claiming second with a score of 83 (+11)

In Division 3, the largest field of the day saw 33 players battle it out. Josh Lemmond (CLT) was the victor on this day shooting a great round of 79 (+7).  Nolan Elenz (CLT) and Greg Pruitt (UPS) were tied for 2nd with scores of 80 (+8).  Tracy Brown (CLT) and Bobby Santulli (CLT) ended up in a tie for 4th with scores of 85 (+13).  Justin Boyd claimed the last paying spot with a score of 86 (+14). 

On the Senior side it was Nolan Elenz claiming the victory and Tracy Brown and Bobby Santulli sharing 2nd place honors.

In Division 4 a field of 21 golfers battled it out. Ronnie Thornton who had been struggling most of the summer with his game, got it figured out on a tough golf course on Monday.  Ronnie’s round of 81 (+9) was 6 better than his closest competition on the day.  Brian Gregor (Augusta) was trying to go back-to-back on the weekend but fell one spot back with a score of 88 (+16). Josh Lamarche (CLT) was solo 3rd with a score of 89 (+17) and Andy Parker (Triad) and Greg Scott (CLT) tied for 4th with scores of 90 (+18) 

On the Senior Side, Ronnie made it a true double dip with the victory on the Senior side as well.  Andy Parker and Greg Scott tied for 2nd and split the prize for that..

In Division 5 we had a small field of 4 on this day.  Which made this a Winner take all affair.  Lance Blackshear (CLT) was the top dog with a score of 92 (+20) to take both the open and Senior titles on this day.

50/50 Raffle to benefit Fold of Honor 

Thanks to all players who purchased their 50/50 tickets to support our Charity of Choice, Fold of Honor. 

We sold $700 worth of tickets, and the lucky winner was BJ Humphrries taking home $350. 

The second draw was for a dozen logo golf balls.  The lucky winner on this day was Dan Ahlers. 

This brings our total donations up to $2550 for the calendar year.
