Eighty-Eight Players Take on the Currahee Challenge!
The Upstate SC Chapter of the Amateur Players Tour held its fourth tournament off the 2023 season at Currahee Golf Club in Tocoa, GA. The course received 2’ of rain on Thursday night and the frost delay did not keep the sold-out field from experiencing a great golf course.
In Division 1, Tony Wise (Georgetown, KY) held off a field of 18 players and fired a +3 (75) to win the Championship. Three players, Jacob Sigmon (Shelby, NC), Joey Clary (Greenville, SC) and Charles Hartley (Lizella, GA) all finished tied for second place with 74’s.

In Division 2, Robert LaCombe (Greer, SC) backed up his win at The Club at Brookstone with his second victory of the young 2023 season. Robert’s score of 78 was good for a one shot victory. Finishing tied for second place was Brandt Howard (Fletcher, NC) and James Davis (Roswell, GA) with solid 77’s.

In Division 3, the championship came down to five players battling to the end. Coming out on top was David Moses (Casar, NC) with a strong 83. Three players, Shawn Poawers (Athens, GA), Michael Lynn (Murfreesboro, TN) and Mary Forrest Graham (Shelby, NC) all finished tied for second place with 86’s.

In Division 4, Gregg Pruitt (Roebuck, SC) and Kip Moore (Rockmart, GA) battled all 18 holes but Gregg was able to come out on top with an impressive 85. Kip finished second with a strong 88.

In Division 5, Danny Sullivan (Simpsonville, SC) the 2022 Upstate D5 Player of the Year started a very strong 2023 campaign by firing an 88. Finishing in second place was Jan Kendrick (Shelby, NC) with a 93.

The Upstate SC Chapter started a new wrinkle in their tournaments at Currahee Championship. The Upstate Chapter will now be running a Senior “Double Dip” at all their events. This allows players who are 50 years of age and older to compete in (2) tournaments at once. For each Senior Division winner will receive a trophy and VISA gift cards.

Folds of Honor Update, at every tournament this year, we will be conducting a 50/50 raffle to raise money for the Folds of Honor. After three tournaments this year, we have raised $745 towards our goal of $5000. Joe Hamacher (Simpsonville, SC) won $265.00 cash.
