2023 Myrtlewood Golf Club Results

The 2023 has started out with 4 sell outs in a row! We held the TRUSTED HOME SERVICES SUPER BOWL CLASSIC this past weekend Feb. 11-12 at Myrtlewood Golf Club. Special thanks to Jeff House and his entire team and Trusted Home Services. We had only booked course for 60 players and ended up with 17 on waiting list. Thanks to Dustin Powers and his team at Myrtlewood Golf Club Pine for allowing us to squeeze the remaining players in. The beginning of the week it didn’t appear we would able to play due to the weather forecast. Dustin and I were in contact several times a day debating whether to postpone the event. We crossed our fingers and with all the players traveling in from other states, we took a chance and it paid off. The rain came in Friday night and thought we may have made a bad decision but with a lot of prayer the rain pretty much wasn’t a factor on Saturday. It was windy and cold but didn’t rain too much until we were setting up the Pine Hills course about 4 on Saturday. We were CPO but pace of play was great. We ended up teeing off 67 players when 7 players decided not to come out. The staff at Myrtlewood is one of the best in the Myrtle beach area for sure. time.  Pace of Play was awesome.  We averaged 4hrs 39 mins with our fastest round of 4.11 and slowest of 5.05 on Saturday at Palmetto and that was CPO. Keep in mind the course was full and we ran into public play when making the turn. Again, thanks to all of our players and the course staff for helping with this. We pride ourselves in pace of play! 67 players began play around 8.00. We also had players visit from 13 APT Chapters from as far away as Iowa. Thanks to all that came. The prize fund is just one of the things that separate us from other tours. We paid out a total of $9030 for this event. $5760 was in the prize fund and $3270 was in Skins and Pins. Not too bad with 67 players especially compared to our competitors when they have almost twice as many players in an event.

Division 1 was smaller this event with 6 players and was close after day 1. Luke Nelson (76) from (MB) held a 2 shot lead over Derek Nahrwold (MB) and Greg Moore (Upstate) (78). Chris Collins and Darryl Phelps both from (MB) were 3 shotts back at (79). Day 2 we moved to Pine Hills and Luke started out on fire and never looked back. He fired a career round (66 , -6) to take capture his 1st win by 6 shots. Greg Moore also played great and carded a -2 (70) to take 2nd place. Darryl Phelps found his putting stroke and took 3rd place with Chis finishing 4th. With the win Luke took home $360 and the hardware.

SENIOR DIV. 1 – Darryl Phelps (Lexington) edged out Chris Collins and took home $80.

Division 2 had 12 players and paid 3 places. When round 1 was finished, Travis Wartluft                           (75 +3) (Charlotte) held a 3 stroke advantage over Terry Newsome (78 +6) from Central Carolina Chapter and 5 shots over Don Sheads (80 +12) (MB). The eventual winner, a new kid on the block from MB and student at CCU Jack Maloney was 9 shots out of the lead starting round 2. This young man played had a career round and fired a 74 (+2) to come all the way back for the win. The top 5 finishers were separated by only 3 shots. Terry Newsome and Don Sheads finished 1 shot back finishing tied for 2nd, Travis slipped but hung on to 4th place and Warren Rennox (MB) finished 5th with a great round of +4 on Sunday. Don and Terry had to go to a course playoff to decide the winner of the Senior Event. The rain started coming down and it took 3 holes to decide it. Terry came away with the Senior D2 Title. Jack received $480 for the win, Don received $240 for 2nd and Terry received $100 for 3rd

SENIOR DIV. 2 had 6 players. Couple of Double Dippers had to go to Playoff to decide the winner. Terry won and received $165 with Don taking $75

Division 3 had 22 players battling for the win. It was a battle on both days. After Round 1 on Saturday, we had 11 players within 6 shots of the lead. Travis Blackwell (Upstate) and Shawn Powers were tied at (82). Birthday boy himself Nate Van De Voorde (KC) was 1 back and Charles Hertel (MD) was 2 back. Round 2 didn’t decide a winner. When they made the turn, Charles had made the turn at 38 and had grabbed the lead by 1 shot over Travis. The back 9 did not disappoint. It went to the very end. Charles held a 1 shot lead going into the final hole and slipped and made a bogey and Travis made a par to make it all square. They headed out in the rain and it took a couple holes to decide the winner. Charles came away with the win. We paid 4 places with Charles receiving a whopping $660 for the win, Travis pocketed $330 for 2nd, Shane Powers took 3rd and received $200 and Nate took 4th for $130.

Division 4 also had 20 players ready to battle. We lost 3 before Round 1 began, due to the projected weather. Day 1 was a runaway by newcomer Kyle Henneman (MB) carded hi best round to date (78 +6) to hold a 5 shot lead over JD Lee (MB) and Kip Moore (Atl) both firing a (83 +11) Jason Upright (Upstate) was at (84 +12). Day 2 was a different story. Kyle got off to a rough start and when they made the turn, Jason had came all the way back to tie for the lead. Jason played solid on his back 9 and finished with a 82 for the day to claim the win over Kyle H and Bruce Shively (MB) by 4 shots. Dave Funkhouser (MB) took 4th. We paid 4 places and Jason received $600, Bruce $300, Kyle $180 and Dave $120. Good pay day for all these guys.

Division 5 also had 11 players and after Round 1 Jason Lawson from Virginia Capitol Chapter coming off his back to back wins at Kings North and Pine lakes was tied with Robert Rosenbaum (MO) at (92 +20). 5 other players were only 4 shots back to start Round 2. Robert quickly took the lead and when they made the turn he had a 4 shot lead heading to there inward 9. He held on to fire a (90 +18) to edge out Alan Parker (KS) by 3 shots who made a hard charge in the end. He took 2nd with Kevin Ungaretta (MB) taking 3rd and Jason Lawson rounding out the top 4. We paid 2 places and Robert received $440, Alan received $220.
