The Nashville Chapter of the Amateur Players Tour held its first tournament of the 2023 season on the Links Course at Tennessee Grasslands in Gallatin, TN. The Links Course was one of the courses played at the North American Championship held earlier in October. Overcast skies kept the temperature cool and all players were able to finish their rounds just before the kids started their Halloween Trick-or-Treating.
In Division One, two players, Austin Vasquez and Memphis Chapter member, Ed McDugle, finished the round at +3 75. A late-round bogey from McDugle forced Vasquez head back to the course and he realized he would be in a playoff! The result was decided on the 1st hole with McDugle taking the win. With the win, he went back-to-back tournament wins as he captured the previous weekend’s two-day event at Tunica National.
In Division Two, Birmingham Chapter member, Russ Donaldson, cruised to victory with his +8 round of 80 to best 3 other players that all finished in a second place tie: Kyle Kucharski (Memphis), Lou Provost and Malcom Miles.
In Division Three, the last hole for each of the 3 players that were in-contention decided the final outcome. After leading for a good portion of the round, Anthony Todd found himself trailing as he played the par 3 11th, his final hole of the day. Todd makes par and felt he needed birdie to have a chance. Newcomer Micheal Lynn, had a few hiccups in the middle of his round, steadied the ship and held a two-stroke lead heading into the difficult par 4 14th, the #1 handicap hole. Unfortunately, the 14th took its toll on Lynn as he posted a triple bogey to fall back in to 2nd place and allowing Todd to score the win.
In Division Four, David Smith ran away and hid as he posts +14 86 to win going away. Newcomer Josh McPherson takes home the 2nd place prize.
In Division Five, Aaron Baggett was able to Jekyll-and-Hyde his way to victory over David McDow. Baggett made the turn with a +6 42 and held on to win by 4 with a score of 90.
In the Senior Net competition, Anthony Todd scores the victory with a -1 NET. He finished 5 strokes ahead of Matt Love and his NET round of +4 76.
