The Amateur Players Tour-Birmingham hosted a two-day fall major at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club in Philadelphia, MS on Dec 3-4, 2022. Players from seven different states made the trip to compete for over $5500 in total prizes.
Division 1 was a close battle between two players and regulation was not enough to decide the winner. Derek Nicholson posted a two-day total of +6 (150) to take the clubhouse lead. Tommy Jean took a glance at the leaderboard on the 18th tee knowing he needed birdie to tie. After hitting his approach shot to five feet and converting that putt, off to playoff it went. Tommy was victorious after three holes after a bogey from Derek on the third hole. Tommy was awarded the trophy and a $375 Visa Gift Card.
Division 2 was another comeback victory for Tim Rinker from the Mid-Missouri Chapter. Tim was three shots back for Kevin Schrum after the first day. Tim was able to overcome a few early double bogies to take a two-shot victory over a trio of players that tied for second. Tim was awarded the trophy and a $350 Visa Gift Card.
Division 3 was won by Andree Tucker with a total of +17 (161) over Jason Harbin, both from the Birmingham Chapter. Andree and Jason battled over the 36 holes, however early struggles on day two for Jason gave Andree the separation he needed. Andree was awarded the trophy and a $375 Visa Gift Card.
Division 4 had a clear winner for most of the second day as David Eslinger, from the Arkansas Chapter, took the victory by eight shots. Division 4 was the largest field for the weekend and David was awarded the trophy and a $450 Visa Gift Card.
Division 5 was won by Jeff Noel from the Birmingham Chapter. Jeff was able to hold of a day two charge from Tim Harbin to take the victory. This is the second victory of the young 2023 season for Jeff and he was awarded the trophy and a $375 Visa Gift Card.
This event has concluded the 2023 Fall Season for the Birmingham Chapter. The full 2023 schedule is in the works with the first event of the full season to take place on March 4, 2023 at Ol Colony Golf Club in Tuscaloosa, AL. This facility serves as the home of the University of Alabama men’s and women’s golf teams.
