2022 Flower Bowl Golf Tournament at Aviara Results

Horse handicappers like to place more weight on recent form when looking for a winner. In Sunday’s APT Flower Bowl kicking off the 2023 SoCal Chapter season, that approach would have netted you more than a few division winners! Players were treated to spectacular fast and firm conditions at the freshly renovated Aviara Golf Club as it readies to host the LPGA Tour once again in a few months.

Division 1: Injuries played a role in the outcome of Division 1 as multiple players were battling nagging problems. Twon Fullman fought through a wrist issue to post a winning number and collect the Flower Bowl and a $140 Visa Gift Card! He will shut it down for the next few months before our next event, the Super Bowl at Los Serranos (South) on February 4th.

Division 2: Eighteen holes wasn’t enough in Division 2 as Hunter Thain, fresh off a win in the Tour Championship in September, tied with new member John Ballew on 85. The two went back out and Hunter drew on his experience down the stretch last out and claimed the victory in the playoff! He took home the Flower Bowl and a $140 Visa Gift Card to start off his first season in Division 2.

Division 3: Speaking of hot players, John Dwyer III had a fantastic fall to take down the very competitive Division 3 Player of the Year race, and he picked up right where he left off Sunday at Aviara. Scott Cessna gave him all he wanted, pulling even on the last hole to force a playoff, but it ended quickly as Scott’s tee shot found trouble. He earned a $50 Visa Gift Card for 2nd, while Dwyer got $190 and the Flower Bowl. I expect the POY race to be very competitive once again in D3 this year, make sure you’re a part of it!

Division 4: Steven Ayala is making winning a habit lately. He had a great finish in the National Championship in Nashville to close out the season, making the cut and contending. Once again, that confidence carried into Sunday, as his slim one shot lead over Michael Fitzgerald (Charlotte Tour) at the turn grew to four when it was all said and done, posting an excellent 87 from the Aviara white tees- good for a $140 Visa Gift Card, the Flower Bowl, and an early POY points lead on 2023.

Division 5: It was a ‘walkover’ but Tyler Ruzi claimed the Flower Bowl nonetheless and takes the early lead on the POY race in ’23! Thanks to all who came out to play.
