WV Tour Championship Results

Hyundai of Beckley Tour Championship;
Presented by: TRK Oral Surgeons Recap

Division 1: Points leader Jerod Ewing came into the tournament with the season championship already locked up, but was looking for win number 11 on the season in the Hyundai of Beckley Tour Championship. After dominating day 1 and taking a 7 shot lead into the final day, Jerod coasted to a 12 shot victory over 2nd place Dexter Moore and 20 shots over 3rd place Bobby Waker. An exclamation point to a dominant season. Dexter came to D1 late in the season and Bobby joined the tour late. With both of them having a full season of D1 action in 2022, we could be looking at an excellent season-long points race when you add the other very capable players into D1 that played this season.

Division 2: Points leader Brandon Thompson was looking for some momentum before he heads to Pinehurst in October to put his talents up against the best players in the country. Brandon took a 3 shot lead into the final round, and was barely able to fend off Mike Elliott to capture another championship by 1 shot. Mike played lights out early to make things interesting through 9. Brandon fought back on the back 9 and that was enough to claim victory. Brandon Preece came in 3rd, 11 shots off the leaders.

Division 3: The only division where the season long champion was not decided coming into the tournament, it was going to be filled with fireworks as the 3 men in contention battled for 1 spot. New D3 member Dave Shepperd took a 3 shot lead into the final day over Matt Robinson. If either Dave or Matt won the tournament and points leader Wayne Mills finished 4th, they would be the champion. If Wayne finished 3rd, Wayne would be the champ. After a brief delay on the 8th hole, play resumed and Matt Robinson came back from 3 shots down, to claim a 1 shot victory over Dave Shepperd. Wayne would miss out on 3rd place by 4 shots behind Bryan Preece, giving Matt Robinson the D3 points championship. Congratulations to Wayne, Matt, and Dave on an excellent season and an exciting final battle for the championship.

Division 4: Points leader Justin Keaton came into the day 6 shots behind day 1 leader James Chambers and tied with Joey Fyall. Joey and Justin played even through 9 and even through 18 as they both tied again with 91’s. James came home down the stretch, but faltered shooting a 98, missing the playoff by 1 shot. Joey and Justin went back to the 9th hole for the playoff. Justin went hybrid off the tee and found the left side of the fairway. Joey chose driver and pushed his shot into the trees near #1. Joey’s 2nd shot hit a tree, and his 3rd shot came just short of the green. Justin’s 2nd shot just missed the green pin high. When the putts dropped, Justin took the playoff hole and the tournament over Joey Fyall in a great battle between to even competitors.

Division 5: Points leader Kevin Long has bided his time well all season long. Division 4 champion Justin Keaton started the year in D5 before being promoted. Division 4 player Marshall Kiser spent some time in D5 collecting wins, before being promoted. Always right there staying close was Kevin Long picking up wins and top 5’s where he could. Kevin dominated the closing weeks of the season to easily capture Division 5. Kevin had to fend off a hard charging Patrick McNeely on the final day, but it was enough to win the Tour Championship by 1 shot. Jason Massie finished 3rd, 13 shots off the leaders.

Congratulations to all of our champions and thanks to everyone who came out and played in a West Virginia event this season. We look forward to seeing you all again next season in April 2022.
