Willow Creek Golf Course Tournament Results
SOLD OUT FIELD STORMS INTO WILLOW CREEK!
The Upstate SC Chapter of the Amateur Players Tour had a sold-out field of 80 players at Willow Creek Golf Club. Willow Creek is a beautiful golf course designed by Tom Jackson. The course rolls thru hills and is set up to be a friendly course to all skill levels. The morning weather had not only the Chapter Owners but all of the players worried about rain. Before the first tee time, rain fled the area and the tournament was played in sunny and warm conditions.
In Division 1, we had 14 players compete on this day. Jody Clary (Upstate) finally broke thru and fired a -1 for the victory. Jody's eagle on hole 18 provided the cushion needed for the first victory. Greg Moore (Upstate) took second place with 74. Conner Henderson claimed third place with a 76.
In Division 2, The tournament looked like it might be a repeat from Links O Tryon with Joe Tucker and Tyler Grennan battling it out down the stretch. At the end it was Joe Tucker (Upstate) picking up a 1 shot victory with a 77. There was a 3-way tie for second with each player firing a 76. Tyler Greenan (Upstate), Bobby Ream (Upstate) and Jim Morgan (Upstate) all tied and split the winnings for second and third place. We had 16 players competing in Flight 2 with the top 15 only separated by 12 shots.
In Division 3 we had 19 players battle the course in a quest to become a Champion. Jim Wiginton (Upstate) and Shannon Leonhardt (Upstate) would need to play an extra 5 holes to determine the Champion. Jim won the tournament in the playoff. Finishing second was Shannon Leonhardt with an 81. New member Freddie Coffey (Upstate) rounded out the top 3 with an 82.
In Division 4, Chase Humphries (Upstate) fired an 82 and hung on for the victory. Finishing in second place was Andy Nicholson (Charlotte) with an 84, a double bogey on 15 sealed Andy's fate. Scott Bryant (Upstate) and Garret Johnson (Upstate) shot 87 to tie for third place in the 15-player field.
In Division 5 Steven Daniels (Charlotte) grabbed an 8 shot victory with an impressive 87. Steve started the tournament double bogey, double bogey but was able to rein in the emotions and propel to victory. Finishing in second place in the 16-player field was Kyle Macklin (Upstate) with a 95. Danny Sullivan (Upstate) fresh off his win at Pine Island took home third place with a 96.
Senior Net Championship
The Senior Net competition was the most exciting of the day with the top 8 players only being separated by 4 shots. Greg Moore (Upstate) fired a 71 for the win. Mark Torres (Upstate) was only one shot behind at 72 to capture second place.
