Stonewall Orchard Golf Club Tournament Results
APT Chicago Players showcased their weather toughness yet again, this time traveling to the other end of the weather spectrum to battle sweltering heat and humidity!
Stonewall Orchard lived up to its reputation, providing a tough test of both distance and strategy in a fantastic golf setting!
In Division 1, Jack Dempsey (Buffalo Grove, IL) got out to a 2-stroke lead at the turn, and then held on to narrowly edge Matt Minder (Decatur, IL). The intensity of the heat played a role down the stretch, but Dempsey managed to card an 83 to best Minder by 2 strokes.
Ryan Zambon (Cary, IL) once again shot a 78, this time running away from the field for his 3rd tour win. Newcomer Nazeer Chaudhry (Lincolnwood, IL) kept Zambon honest with a strong back 9 including 2 birdies, but was not able to catch the leader. Zambon’s consistency was key, carding 12 pars and a birdie for the round.
The Division 3 winner was Danny Kwilas (Algonquin, IL) with a very strong 79. Kwilas is known locally for his accuracy and short game, so the forced carries of Stonewall Orchard made the performance even more impressive! Steven Barth (Willowbrook, IL) shot an 87 to edge out Yuji Cusick (Chicago, IL) for second place by 1 stroke.
Our Division 4 winner was also a newcomer, Balvinder Singh (Lincolnwood, IL) who got off to an incredible start, making birdie on each of the first 4 holes to take a commanding lead! Singh finished the day with an 80 and a bag full of great stories! The hot start was too much for the rest of the field to catch, but Ian Shanahan (Crystal Lake, IL) recovered from a tough front 9 to shoot 42 on the back to take 2nd.
Patrick Weinbender (Bolingbrook, IL) took the Division 5 trophy home, beating playing partner Adam Pump (Crystal Lake, IL) by 1 stroke. Pump mounted a valiant comeback attempt down the stretch but fell just short of his first trophy!
