Ironhorse Golf Club Tournament Results

[read_time]

Finally, the weather we’ve been waiting for all year!  Low 80’s, light breeze, sunshine and low humidity!  Ideal conditions for scoring, with a soft and receptive golf course in front of the players.  The cream is rising to the top towards the end of the season!

While the golf course was soft and receptive, every hole on the golf course has out of bounds or a hazard, often both, lining the fairways and greens.  The golf course rewards good tee shots, and has next to no forgiveness for those gone awry.

Rob Spriggel once again proved why he was promoted to Division 1, capping off his second victory in as many D1 events with a 3 stroke victory over Jacob Bruhn.  Rob carded an impressive 3 over 75 to Jacob’s 78.  Korey Glasgow still has the points lead going into next weekend’s finals, but things are heating up!

Brian Taylor set the clubhouse lead early for Division 2 at 8 over par, but with Adam Augustine and Chris O’Dowd behind him playing well, he would need some help.  Adam made a bogey on the tough 17th hole par 3, which tied him for the lead with Chris one hole behind, both player sitting at 6 over par now and the difficult 18th hole to finish.  Adam came in clutch and chipped in from the deep stuff right of the green for a spectacular birdie and to finish at 5 over par.  Chris would need to match that birdie to force a playoff, but the 18th showed it’s teeth and Chris’s bogey would put him in solo second.  Adam Augustine finally get’s his first victory after numerous top 5’s this season.

Brian Lunt came out swinging today, and he had to, because John Lusker and Todd Gurss were also playing some seriously good golf today.  But Brian kept his head on straight, and focused on the task at hand, while Lusker and Gurss stumbled coming down the stretch.  Lunt gets his first victory, with his first sub 80 round on APT, shooting a lights out 5 over par 77 to Lusker’s 79 and Gurss’s 80 to take his first win in Division 3.

I’m not sure there has been a more improved player this season than David Szczucinski, starting out in the middle of the pack in D5, to winning D5 events, getting promoted to D4 and now shooting the best round he’s shot on the APT!  Not to mention he was sad he couldn’t make that last par putt to card a 79, but an 80 was more than enough for a comfortable win in D4.

D5 was a little different today, as we had a limited field due to times at the course and only had a few D5 players sign up, but that didn’t stop Casey Bjorndstad shooting an impressive score of 93 on a punishing golf course!  That score would have been a contender in a full field, but it was enough to get the win over Bobby Blankenship for his first victory this season.

Next weekend it’s our Season Finale at Sycamore Ridge!  The race is on for the season long points winners!
