Herons Glen Golf & Country Club Tournament Results

The second event of the Southwest Florida Amateur Players Tour Chapter was held at the beautiful Herons Glen Golf & Country Club in North Fort Myers, Florida, on May 5.  32 players teed it up to test their skills at this challenging course with water penalty areas on most holes.  The results came down to the last few holes in most divisions with scorecard playoffs in two divisions!  Highlights include: 

• Division 1:  After the front nine, 4 players were within 2 strokes of each other, providing excitement on the back nine.  Local player, Levi Long shared the early lead with Chase Bertrand at 2-over 38 and Henry Abbott just one back.  On the way to the finish, Levi Long’s local knowledge proved to be too much, as he birdied the par 5 17^th hole and took home the win with a 2-stroke victory over Bertrand who finished solo second.   
• Division 2: Scott Dennis, off his win at Bobby Jones in D3, showed why he was moved up to D2 by turning in a sizzling 1-under 35 on the front!  Dennis had several players including Joe Shoopman, Scott McDaniel, Nick Westbrook, and Herons Glen’s own Adam Payne right behind him.  Shoopman and McDaniel could not replicate their front nine efforts.  Westbrook birdied the 15^th to pull him into a tie with Dennis and Payne, but an untimely bogey at 16 cost him a tie with Dennis and Payne who both finished with 2-over 74s.  After playing in the heat the two agreed to a scorecard playoff which Payne won by carding an even par back nine!   
• Division 3: In Division 3, we had a tale of 2 nines!  Frank Hoffman started off with a solid 3-over 39 on the front for the early lead.   On the back nine, both Hoffman and Waymon Fuselier had their struggles on a couple of holes with each carding some double bogies.  Fuselier played very solid down the stretch finishing the last 5 holes in 1-under and giving him the tie with Hoffman.  Again, because of the hot day, both decided to do the scorecard playoff with Fuselier gaining his first APT win with a 41 on the back!   
• Division 4:   In Division 4, Stephen Leadbetter, a Herons Glen member, and first-time player on the APT, took an early lead at the turn.  In the end, Leadbetter’s course knowledge and consistent play led him to a 5-shot win over Andres Alarcon.   
• Division 5: In Division 5, Andrew Lampert, off a playoff win at Bobby Jones, jumped out to an early lead over Rusty Lingenfelter, Greg Gastfield, and Ken Winters.  Gastfield was able to make up a stroke on Lampert on the back nine, but it was not enough to overcome Lampert’s solid play on the day.  This was Lampert’s second win in a row!   
• Senior Net: 10 of the 16 eligible players participated in the contest.  Scott Dennis (D2) proved to be too much for the field again at Herons Glen in the Net game. turning in an even par round.  Greg Gastfield finished second at 79!
