Florence Golf Invitational Results

The Florence Invitational was held on Monday, July 26 at Florence Country Club in Florence, SC. We had 49 players brave the heat and one of the most difficult courses they well play this year. The course was in perfect shape and greens were slick but not as slick as I have seen them.

I want to thank Feddie's Steakburger for their partnership with this event. Needless to say we will be back!!!! Pace of play was outstanding. The average was 4:16 and slowest was 4:26!! Thanks to all players for a great job!!!

Div. 1 was one once again by one of the best players in the Carolinas. Will Morgan came down from the Carolina Triad Chapter. Will shot a very impressive 72, 1 over. This is after he took a triple on #3. He edged out Scott Hughes and Bobby Booth by 2 strokes. Scott held the lead for a big part of the day. Great playing by all of our Div. 1 guys. Long course to be only a shade under 6500yds. Keep in mind it is a par 71.

Div. 2 once again was had to go to extra holes. Travis Wartluft from Charlotte Chapter and Chase Shealy ended their round at +6. They went back out to hole 18 a par 5 and Chase was able to make birdie to secure his 2nd win of the 2021 season. Don Sheads finished 3rd and Stuart Amos playing in his first event since being deployed to the Middle East. Thanks for your Service Stuart.

Div. 3 was won by new comer Bobo Ammons. Bobo played with the previous tour I was director a couple years ago. He fired an amazing 78 +7 to edge out Cecelia Barksdale-Purvis by 2 shots. It was a close battle all day. Kevin Jenkins another new comer was 3rd and Earl Bottorff rounded out top 4.

Div. 4 was our largest division of the event. 16 players were competing. Steven Hawk from the Augusta Chapter playing the course for the first time, fired an amazing 78 +7 to beat another visitor Mitchell Long from Carolina Triad Chapter by 3 shots. Tommy Stokes playing his best round of the season finished 3rd at +12while Chris Huge rounded out the Top 4. Welcome to Div. 3 Steven and Mitchell. Congrats to you both.

Div. 5 was won by Randall Johnson. This is his second victory of the season. He fired one of his best rounds by carding a 87. Guess the lessons are finally paying off!! Travis Shively also playing won of his best rounds to date finished 4 shots behind. Donna Richards playing in only her 2nd event of the year finished 3rd once again.

Senior Recap:
Div. 2 was one by Chase Shealy in a playoff over Travis Wartluft.

Div. 3 was won by Cecelia Barksdale-Purvis. Time Frisch finished 3rd with Walter Schmitz rounding out the top 3.

Div. 4 was won by Mr. Tommy Stokes. Proud of this man for sure! Chris Huge finished 2nd with Alan Reynolds and David Swimm finishing tied for 3rd.
