Fair Oaks Golf Club Tournament Results

[read_time]

Fair Oaks was in great condition and even though it was pretty warm on Day 1 many found a way to go low. At the end of Day in Division 1 it was really close with Josh Caldwell and Ed McDugle in a dead heat both shooting 3 under par. Jeff Dickey was only 1 behind. Day 2 saw Ed McDugle birdie two of the first three holes to move into the lead but in the end, Josh backed up his day 1 score with another round of 69 to take the win by 4 strokes.

Jeff Avant and Ronnie Fowler in Division 2 locked horns early in round one. It looked like Ronnie would take the lead to the clubhouse but had some bogey trouble on holes 16 through 18.  Jeff came in at even par at the end of day one with a round of even par. It only took one hole on day two for Ronnie to even the match when Jeff bogeyed the first hole. After that it was game on as they matched birdies on hole two. Then as Jeff bogeyed number 5 and Ronnie bogeyed 6 they got to number eight even again and both birdied. When they made the turn, Ronnie had the lead until number eleven. That is when the day turned into Jeff’s day.  Jeff birdied and Ronnie double bogeyed. That 3 point turnaround allowed Jeff to stay in the driver’s seat all the way home finishing the tournament at 1 under par.  Ronnie finished second with a final score of 1 over par.

David Foshee has dominated in Division 3 this year and this tournament he did not disappoint either, but Roger Leake and Rich Busby kept him honest all the way to the end.  After day 1, David was at 78, while Roger and Rich were at 79.  None of the three parred #1 but it was David who tripled bogeyed it handing the lead to co-leaders Rich and Roger.  All three ran into a little bogey trouble mid front nine but after the turn David’s consistent pars took him to a win by 2 strokes over Roger.  Rich was a close third.

Division 4 had several players playing what is most likely their best tournament scores ever. Brandon Permenter made the starting nine look like a cakewalk with 1 bogey, 1 birdie and 7 pars. The back didn’t go quite as well but he only gave up 3 strokes to par finishing with a 75. This gave Brandon a 6-stroke lead over George Powell and Brad Barker making it look like he would be impossible to catch on day 2. Then George Powell caught fire on day 2. George shot 4 over on the front nine to give up another shot to Brandon but he birdied ten followed later by another birdie and an eagle on the back finishing the back at one under par for a 75 matching Brandon’s day 1 score. Brad Barker staying in the game the whole weekend finished in third with two great scores of 81, 81. In the end that 6 strokes from day 1 was just too much to make up because Brandon backed it up with a 77 on Day 2. George came in second. What a great effort by all three players!

Division 5 like all divisions in this tournament put up some amazing scores. On day 1 Arthur Miller posted an 81 for the low round in division 5 for the weekend followed closely by Trent Warren’s 84 but day 2 saw another Miller, Aundra shoot 40 on the front 9 making up 6 of the 7 strokes Arthur had when starting day 2.  While these 2 battled, another player Kevin Brown was inching closer to the pair of Millers.  In the end Aundra edged out Arthur and Kevin by a stroke, coming from fourth place after day 1 to get his first APT win.
