Crowfield Classic Golf Tournament Results
The APT Low Country Chapter held the 4th Tournament of the 2021 – 2022 wrap around season at the difficult Crowfield Golf Club in Goose Creek SC in North Charleston SC. Even with some tough weather conditions – A little cold and a lot wet due to a ½ inch of rain but still very playable. The course staff including Head Pro Bobby Dunnellan were fantastic and great hosts!
Division 1 ended up in an unexpected playoff. Greg Moore from Greer SC played a solid 15 holes and held a commanding lead going into the 16th hole. Fellow competitor also from Greer SC, Dan Constantino finished early and watched the leaderboard as Greg closed with a tough 3 hole stretch, 16 – 18 (+5) to finish tied for the lead. These two headed out to #1 where a playoff took place with Greg bringing home the win, the flag, and the cash. I know that was tough on both, fun to watch for the rest of us. Good playing by both!!!! The winning score was 78 (+6).
Division 2 ended in a 3 way playoff between Travis Blackwell, Trent Whitfield, and Todd Lindsey. Todd and Trent finished up and waited on Travis to finish. The last 3 holes at Crowfield proved very difficult for some. With a two shot leading coming into 17 Travis went bogey, bogey – and was now tied and heading to a playoff. The three way playoff went a couple of holes. Todd and Trent beat Travis on the first hole (2 pars and a bogy). On the second playoff hole Todd beat out Trent for the Win! Another match that was fun to watch!!! Nice job by all 3! The winning score was 88 (+16).
Division 3 was a run away. Chapter Owner Justin Gainey had the field covered today. He went out in 41, with 3 doubles and 2 birdies. The rest of the field struggled to get going. A bogey and a triple to start the back nine made the others in D3 pause for a minute but then Justin got it back together and pulled away. The winning score was 84 (+12).
Congratulations Justin on your 1st Win of 2022!!
Division 4 saw Chris Huge leading all day. Daniel Adams fought back on holes 8 – 15 and closed in on the lead that Chris had. During this same stretch Chris had a run of double bogeys, but then found his game and closed on the tough finishing holes with a solid finish. He ended the day on 18 with a nice birdie and went on for the win. Daniel ended up in 2nd. The winning score was 86 (+14)!
Congratulations Chris Huge (2 in a row)!!
Division 5 was a battle to the end. Wayne Gainey and Mike Pittroff (all the way from St. Louis, MO) were in a fight. Wayne held the lead for most of the day. He started the day with four straight pars and a bogey on the 5th hole. +1 after 5 _ Strong! Mike just plugged along and kept fighting. As he got near the end, he saw the lead shrinking and tightened up. Mike goes 3 over for the last 4 holes, while WG 7 over for the same stretch. Mike’s good play in the end was enough to bring home the win. Both players had stretches of great play… Well done to both… Congrats to Mike for delivering the WIN! The winning score was 95 (+24).
We had 11 players take advantage of the Senior Double Dip Challenge. A separate tournament within the regular tournament for all players 50+.
Greg Moore won the Sr. Division 1 points and prize.
Trent Whitfield won the Sr. Division 2 points and prize.
Chris Huge won the Sr. Division 4 points and prize.
Mike Pittroff won the Sr. Division 5 points and prize.
February weather is always questionable here in the Low Country SC. It could be 70 like it was on Friday, and 55 like it was today. The good news is the sun was shining, no snow was on the ground, it was a little wet but playable, and we were all on the golf course today 😊.
I want to say a huge thank you to each one of you for coming out and playing in the tournament today. We hope you will be able to join us at the next tournament on February 26th in Santee SC at Santee National. We should have a full field and the competition strong! See you there!
