The Amateur Players Tour – Atlanta Chapter was treated to firm and faster greens at Cherokee Run in Conyers, GA. Thirty two players teed it up for a share of nearly $1700 in total prizes. The Atlanta members and APT- Atlanta staff thanks the staff for Cherokee Run for the wonderful venue to host the event.
Division 1 was a tight battle all day long between Derek Foulke and Jeremy Hudson. With both players being tied after 14 holes, Jeremy rattled off two birdies in the final four holes to take the victory by two shots with a 75 (+3). This is the second victory of the season for Jeremy and he was awarded the trophy and a $210 Visa Gift Card.
Division 2 was a one-horse race for most of the day. Bryan Wimberly also carded a 75 (+3) to secure his first victory in Division 2. Bryan was promoted late last season and has been in the hunt for victories since and took care of business this time out. Bryan was awarded the trophy and a Visa Gift Card worth $150.
Division 3 was won by Shawn Powers with a score of 82 (+10). This is back to back wins for Shawn on the Atlanta Chapter. Shawn stayed steady all day to secure the trophy and $120. Shawn is also sitting atop the Player of the Year Standings for Division 3, putting him in a great spot heading into the Local Finals is three weeks.
Division 4 was won by Danny Daniel visiting from the Birmingham Chapter. Danny used his solid play on the Par 3’s to take the victory by two shots over Andy Maestas. Danny carded a 90 (+18) and won two of the four Closest to the Pins on the day. Danny will be playing in the Birmingham Local Finals in two weeks and has a great chance to gain ground in Birmingham Player of the Year Race. Danny victory earned him $210 and the trophy.
Division 5 was won by a new member, Ben Hart. Ben was victorious by three shots over Doug Gibbs and the current leader in the National Player of the Year standings, Don Hamblett. This is Ben’s first victory on the Amateur Players Tour and was awarded $210 for his victory.
Next up for Atlanta is the Local Finals at Bears Best on Sept 17-18. There we will crown five tournament champions and five Local Players of the Year.
