Cheraw Golf Tournament Results

[read_time]

The momentum is strong with a great field of 83 players from 5 different chapters as well as a guest appearance from one of our Carolina Triad Chapter Owners, J Combs made the trip down to Cheraw SC.  This was a course that was new to many of our players, and I can say that it did not disappoint any of them.  The course was starting to come out of dormancy and the fairways were green in most areas and the greens were in fantastic shape.

In Division 1 we had 12 players compete on this day.  Scott Roberts (Charlotte) is picking up where he finished up last year with his first victory on the 2022 season.  Scott, our reigning 2021 North American Division 1 champion, started out with a nice 1 under par, 35 on the front and was in a battle until the final stretch of holes.  With 6 pars to start the back nine, Scott had birdies on 16 and 17 to stretch the lead and never look back carding a final score of 69 (-3).  Second place went to Mister Runner-Up, Daniel Jackson (Charlotte). Daniel has played in 5 events since the fall and has finished in 2nd place in all of them.  Daniel was right on Scott’s heals all day long and needed an Eagle on the par 5 18th to force a tie with Scott, but an unfortunate 3rd shot led to a double bogie and a final score of 73(+1).

Congrats Scott!!

In Division 2, Chris Patterson (Charleston) had the comeback round of the year thus far.  Chris had one birdie and one bogie on the front to shoot 36 and came home with 2 more birdies and 3 bogies to shoot 37 for a final score of 73 (+1).  This was a 19-shot improvement over his last round on tour and I asked him what made the difference in today’s round.  His response which should not be surprising was that he was embarrassed after this last round and has been working on his game every day to get better.  Well, it just goes to show what hard work will do.  Todd Lindsay (Charleston) finished in second place with a score of 78(+6), Travis Wartluft (Upstate) was third with 79 (+7) and rounding out the top 4 was Rick Philo (Charlotte) with a score of 80 (+8).

Congrats Chris!!!

In Division 3 we had 24 players battle it out.  Russell McDonald (Charlotte) and TJ Eaves (Carolina Triad) both shot 79 on this day to force an on-course playoff.  Both players had a great nine holes and a not-so-great nine hole.  Russell went out in Even Par 36 on the front and 7 over on the back nine.  TJ was the opposite and shot 6 over par on the front nine and came home strong with a 1 over par back nine to force the playoff.  It took 2 extra holes for a winner to be decided and Russell with a par on the 2nd hole takes home the victory.  We had a Tie for 3rd place with Andrew Haines (Charlotte) and Joseph Jones (Charleston) splitting 3rd and 4th place points and purse with scores of 82 (+10).

Congrats Russell.

In Division 4, We thought we had another playoff in the works.  Eric Seibert was waiting in the clubhouse awaiting word on the final hole score from Tommy Stokes (Charleston) who was tied with Eric with only 18 to play.  Well, Tommy was dialed in on 18 and with a closing birdie moved him one shot ahead and into the winner’s circle.  Tommy Shot 86 (+14) to claim the title.  Eric finished in solo second with a score of 87 (+15) and Jimmie Chapman (Charlotte) rounded out the top 3 with a score of 88 (+16).

Congrats Tommy !!

In Division 5 Steve Daniels goes back-to-back winning the first two events in 2022 on the Charlotte Schedule.  It was a close battle throughout most of the day and again the result was still in doubt with players playing the 18th hole.  Steve made the late surge to the top with pars on 17 and 18 to shoot a final score of 96 (+24).  John Greider Sr. (Charleston) had a chance to win but an unfortunate triple bogie on 18 moved him down 1 spot in the final standings with a score of 98 (+26).

Congrats Steve !!

SENIOR NET.

The Senior Net Competition is gaining momentum with each event.  For those players 50 years of age or older, they have an optional contest that is awarding points and Visa Gift Cards at every Charlotte event which will accumulate throughout the season until we award a Local Senior Net Player of the year Champion.  Today we had 33 players compete which means we were paying the top 6 finishers.

When all the strokes were allocated, our winner was Allen Hagen with a score of 71(-1).  Second place went to Tommy Stokes who shot even par 72.  Todd Lindsey, Jimmie Chapman and Wes Robertson shared 3rd,4th and 5th place with scores of 74.  Rounding out the top 6 was 4 players who tied with scores of 75.  Each of these players had 6th place money split and added to their tour credit account.

Thank You to all the players that came out on this day, and we look forward to seeing you again at future Charlotte events.
