Charlotte Local Tour Finals Results

The Amateur Players Tour Charlotte Chapter held their local finals at the Stonebridge Golf Club in Stanley, NC this past weekend. It’s been many years since most of our members had the opportunity to play the course in competitive rounds. Stonebridge may have been in the best condition we’ve seen in years.

Seventy players from six APT Chapters enjoyed the morning tee times and heated competitive rounds held over two days.

We also had the pleasure to crown three APT Charlotte Local Player of the Year Champions at the conclusion of the tournament.

Day 1

Division 1

Scott Patnode (37-33-70) continued his solid play on day one with a smooth 2 under to take the overnight lead. Dan Constantino (39-38-77) and Randy Hodges (38-40-78) may have found themselves a bit further back then they would like but they would still have an opportunity to catch Scott should he faulter a bit and they played well.

Division 2 yielded low scores on the day with five players separated by six shots of the lead. Mike Edwards (39-40-79) would find himself in 5th after round one. Jim Goulding (38-40-78) would settle into 4th. Wes Jones (36-40-76) continued his solid play and finished round 1 in 3rd. Rick Philo (38-36-74) took advantage of his home course knowledge and found himself heading into day two in 2nd. Travis Wartluft (39-34-73) would be our overnight leader after a hot back nine.

Division 3

Would have three players play their way atop the leaderboard. Russ McDonald (40-41-81) would finish the day in third place and four shots behind the leader. Matt Miller (37-42-79) would post his best tournament ever and found himself in second place. Cliff Morgan (35-42-77) posted the best round of the day and would head into day two with a two shot lead.

Division 4

Five players would put themselves in contention with another three players knocking on the door after day one. Bill Sturgeon (43-41-84) and Kevin Lepage (43-41-84) would tie for 4th. Joe Lewis (43-39-82) would end the round in 3rd place. Sindo Mayor (42-38-40) would head into day two one shot off the lead. Rondal Gibson (40-39-79) would post the only round in the 70’s and sleep on the overnight lead.

Division 5 find four players in contention. Paul Baker (49-44-93) and Terry Bollenbecker (47-46-93) would tie for 3rd place. Bob Russell (43-48-91) was contending again and finish second o the day. Danny Sullivan (46-43-89) would post in the 80’s and head into day two with the lead.

Day 2

Another beautiful day at Stonebridge greeted the players. You could feel the anticipation build as the players arrived for their tee-times.

Division 1

Brian McGowan (38-38-76) would improve upon his day one score and beat out Jamozzy Skenandore on a score card playoff for second place. Both players had a two-day total of 155. Scott Patnode (39-38-77) would take the title for the Charlotte Local Finals with a two-day total of 147.

Division 2

Wes Jones (41-37-78) would play himself into third place for the weekend with a two-day total of 154. Travis Wartluft (36-40-76) would fall off the lead and finish one shot behind the winner with a two-day total of 149. Rick Philo (36-38-74) would equal his first score with five birdies on the card and secure the win on his home course with a two-day total of 148.

Division 3

Matt Miller (43-45-88) would cool off after his opening round. A two-day total of 167 would be good enough for third. Guy Roberts (42-39-81) takes second place with a two-day total of 164. Russ McDonald (36-42-78) will finally shave his beard as he wins the local final with a two-day total of 159.

Division 4

Jimmy Sullivan (46-38-84) would climb the leaderboard to take fourth place with a two-day total of 170. Joe Lewis (38-44-82) appears to be back to his consistency we all know. Joe would take third place with a two-day total of 164. Sindo Mayor would battle all day for the lead but would ultimately settle for second with a two-day total of 163. Rondal Gibson (44-38-82) and a two-day total of 161 would handle the pressure of an overnight lead better than most. Rondal claims the Local Finals win by a two-shot margin.

Division 5

Terry Bollenbecker (46-46-92) improved on his day one score and climbed his way to second with a two-day total of 185. Paul Baker (48-41-89) fired a two-day total of 182 to win the Charlotte Local Finals by three shots.
