Camden Golf Showdown Results
2021 APT 9/11 20th Anniversary was held at the historic Camden Country Club in Camden, SC on 9/12/2021. The weekend didn’t start off too good. I was loading the truck to head out on Saturday and managed to fall and get pretty banged up. My golfing will be on hold for a while. Sunday morning, Link and I headed to Camden. Colette, Lee Dixon, AJ and Larry Lee met me there early to get the course set up. Their help was so much appreciated. Being old and having use of 1 arm the best for running get ready for an event.
Players started arriving about 11:00 am. I asked everyone to gather around the American Flag in the front circle at 12:30. We had prayer, a moment of silence and played the National Anthem in honor of all the lives that were lost on that tragic day. We also recognized all of our Veterans, First Responders, Fire Fighters and Law Enforcement members.
Div. 1 we had 12 participants. Needless to say it was as competitive as you could imagine. Scott Roberts, one of the best D1 players in the country came out on fire and made the turn at -4 with Brian Lewis only 3 back and eventual winner Russ Sabol 4 back. Russ ended up with 5 birdies on back (8 total for the day) to edge out Scott by 2 shots. Russ fired a 66, Scott 68 and Brian Lewis held on for 3rd with a par 70 round. Congratulations to all the great playing. Look out Tour Championship!!
Div. 2 was proved to be just as close. Wes Jones and Stuart Amos were neck and neck throughout the round. Wes carded a +5 to edge Stuart out by 2 shots. Chase Shealy finished 3rd with Points Leader Lee Dixon finishing 4th.
Div. 3 was another closely contested division. William Buie making the turn held a 1 shot advantage over Justin Gainey and Larry Lee. Justin made a triple on #10 to fall back and Larry struggled in the middle of the back 9. Williams lead grew to 3 shots but he himself ran into trouble on #16 but held on to edge Justin out by 1 shot firing a +11. Larry finished 3rd 4 shots back with Wes Pender rounding out the top 4 with a +19.
Div 4 had to go to extra holes. Joseph Lewis and Sean Mason finished the day all square at +15. They were tied after front 9.Joseph got off to a rough start on the back and after #13 he was 2 back. He settled down andpulled even on #17. They both bogeyed #18 to finish all square. Sean won the playoff to take the Open title but Joseph captured the Senior Crown.
Div 5 was one once again by one of our youngsters, Cody Peyton. He is really improving each time he is able to come play. Congrats to all that played.
