Burlington Golf Club Tournament Results

On Sunday April 24th, 2022, the Iowa Tri-State chapter of the Amateur Players Tour held their third event of this young 2022 season. The weather conditions were perfect after an early morning rain and 66 players were ready to face the challenge ahead. The challenger, Burlington Golf Club. This beautiful course is well known as the oldest golf club west of the Mississippi. The fairways were lush, and the greens were fast and true and after three on course playoffs, the winners were crowned. We would like to give a big shoutout to Super Dave Oetkin. His sponsorship for this event was awesome and the trophies that he provided were phenomenal. He really helped us make this such a great event.

Division one was our first playoff of the day between Brandon Estabrook and BGC member Kacie Broeg. Both players finished with a score of 70, which led to a sudden death playoff. Off the tee Broeg was right in some bushes and Estabrook was in the left center of the fairway. After his first failed attempt to his ball out of the bushes, Broeg declared his lie unplayable and took a drop. Broeg then punched his ball into the fairway. Estabrook hit his second shot five feet left of the pin. Broeg’s fifth shot landed inches from the hole and rolled out five feet. Estabrook made his birdie putt, making him our division one champion. This was just the beginning of an exciting day for competition and play offs.

Division two came down to another sudden death playoff between Jacob Goldstick and Daryl Wolff. With scores of 77 the players headed out to the first tee to battle it out. Both players finished the first hole with par, so they headed to number nine to continue the playoff. Goldstick’s tee shot was right, but he still had an open shot at the green. Wolff’s found himself in some tree trouble when he hit his tee shot to the left. Wolff made a nice second shot from the trees that ended up in the green side bunker. Goldstick’s second shot was on the green about 25 feet past the hole. Wolff’s shot from the bunker was a good one, leaving him 8 feet below the hole. Goldstick was able to two putt for par to finish the hole, while Wolff proceeded to miss his par putt, making Goldstick our division 2 champion.

Division three champion, Chase Estabrook, annihilated the competition today by 6 strokes over second place finisher Cody Gebauer. Third place came down to a score card playoff between Darin Smith and Scott Riley. Smith won the scorecard playoff for third place.

Division four was our third playoff between Roger Bales and Nick Louderback. Bales was able to take home the win by making par on the first hole over Louderback. Louderback has been on fire lately, after just 3 events he has 2 second place finishes and 1 win. I’m sure we will see him back on top soon. Bales is off to a hot start, after finishing as the runner up in 2021 POY, he is looking improve on that position and unseat our current points leader and raining POY Ryan Hohanshelt.  Also, in the cash with an 89, Mike Murry was able to wrap up third place.

Division five winner Brady Watts beat out his competition by 6 strokes over second place finisher Robert Rosenbaum. Watt’s 44 on the front nine gave him a lead that he would not relinquish. The division 5 POY race is heating up with 3 events played and 3 different champions. This could be an exciting finish by the end of the season. I can’t wait to see how it ends.

What an exciting day of golf at BGC! Three division on-course playoffs made for some exciting competition to witness. We had many spectators join in the suspense of the playoffs. With the beautiful weather and amazing course, it was a great day for golf. We would like to thank everyone that came out and supported us. A big thank you to BGC and their head pro Matt Baschke and BGC President Jon Phillips for allowing us to host our event at this wonderful course and for their hospitality. They were, once again, a pleasure to work with. We hope to see all of you at our next event at The Legacy GC. Let’s keep the momentum going and sell out another tournament! Help us make this our fourth sellout!
