36 Hole Marathon ends in Dean/Salisbury Victory

Thanksgiving Point Golf Club played host to the 2021 T-Point Two-Man Marathon this past Saturday, April 24th.  Located along the winding Jordan River, our finalists gutted out a marathon day of 36 holes of golf along with the partner in a mix of stroke and match play experiences.  This full field NET event was a first for many of competitors and was met with much excitement to do it again real soon.

In the first round, our players took to the front 9, in a best ball stroke play event in which the 30 teams ended up being seeded based on their net score finish.  The #1 overall seed went to Brandon Coombs and Christopher Miles (-9) and the #2 seed went to Brayden Robinson & Deyvan Torres (-9).  Those two teams enjoyed a bye in the second round matches, automatically advancing to the afternoon action.  Full results can be seen here for Round 1.

In the second round, 14 matches earned the winners a spot in the afternoon 16 teams, as teams played a Fourball match play round on the back 9 of the golf course. The most exciting match saw Cory Hester and McKade Christensen nip Jeff Clifford and John Gordon 1UP.  Second Round Match Results Here.

The 3rd round featured our teammates playing modified alternate shot in match play, whittling the field down to the final 8 teams as the winners advanced with their play on the front 9 of the golf course.  A couple of matches went the distance, with an extra hole still not enough to decide a winner.  The players were then taken to 80 yards from the pin in the 9th fairway and all 4 players hit a single shot to the green; with the furthest single shot team being eliminated.  Troy Hill & Robert Hill would advance over Chad Davies & Shiv Subramaniam as well as Casey Bice & Raul Delatorre advancing over Josh Henshaw & Peter Fong. Modified Alternate Shot Match Results Here.

The final round would determine our Two-Man Team Champion as all remaining 8 teams played the back 9 one more time in a net aggregate stroke play competition for placing 1 through 8.  All players in the final round received a portion of the prize purse relative to their finish.  The final round was extremely close as Jim Dean & Joe Salisbury (75) used Par+Birdie on the 36th hole of their day to seal the win by a single shot!  Tied for second place were Tyler Moore & Dillon Patterson (76) and Brandon Ballif & Aaron Bascomb (76).  Moore/Patterson would claim second place prize money with a better first round seed earned (#3 to #15).   The full list of the 8 finalists:
Jim Dean & Joe Salisbury – 75    $500
Tyler Moore & Dillon Patterson – 76  $260
Brandon Ballif & Aaron Bascomb – 76  $160
McKade Christensen & Cory Hester – 78  $100
Mani Kottaichamy & Mark Torbett – 80  $80
Casey Bice & Raul Delatorre – 81   $60
Troy Hill & Robert Hill – 82  $60
Tanner Cromar & Daniel Jensen –  92  $40

Closest to the Pin winners took home a cool $138/each and went to Matt Zullo (Hole 4 – 9’1”), Jeff Clifford (Hole 7 – 11’), Brandon Ballif (Hole 15 – 3’6”), and Brandon Coombs (Hole 17 – 5’9”).

Morning Super Skins winners were Dillon Patterson (NET Eagle #1), Troy Hill (NET Albatross #2), Brandon Coombs (NET Eagle #9), and Noah Johnson (NET Eagle #14) for $231 each.

Afternoon Super Skins winners, snagging $53 each were James Goodfellow/Craig Peacock (NET Eagle #1), Brandon Ballif/Aaron Bascomb (NET Albatross #2), Deyvan Torres/Brayden Robinson (NET Birdie #4), Dillon Patterson/Tyler Moore (NET Eagle #8), Brandon Ballif (NET Birdie #13), and Tyler Moore (NET Birdie #15).

Congratulations to all of our winners on an absolute marathon of a golf day at Thanksgiving Point GC!  Next up, we are back to individual division stroke play with the Timpanogos Forty-Five on May 14th-15th, 2021.
