An unseasonably warm Saturday afternoon was welcomed with open arms by a sold-out field of golfers who competed at Woodfin Ridge as a part of the Upstate Amateur Players Tour. The tournament at Woodfin Ridge marked the second of the season for the tour that travels around the Upstate of South Carolina and portions of North Carolina as well.

The Upstate Amateur Players Tour offers golfers of all skill levels an opportunity to compete against a level playing field. With 10 different divisions, including senior divisions as well, the Upstate Amateur Players Tour is the fastest growing tour in the area and is designed by the players and for the players.

Saturday, the golfers enjoyed a beautiful day filled with sunny skies and moderate temperatures. Nestled in Inman, South Carolina, Woodfin Ridge Golf Club is one of the most pristine courses in the area. At the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Woodfin Ridge is located along Lake Bowen and features several scenic holes, including the feature finishing holes of No. 9 and No. 18.

Here’s a breakdown of the results from each division:

Division 1 – Jody Clary used an even par run on the back nine to secure the top spot in Division 1 on Saturday. Clary posted a score of 73 to defeat second-place finisher Brandt Howard by just two shots.

After birding his first two holes, Howard shot one over par on the front nine. Howard made a charge at the end with six straight pars to end his round. TJ Hines and Greg Moore finished in a tie for third place with rounds of 76 and Nicholas Politis finished fifth after shooting 79.

Senior Division 1 – While Brandt Howard came up just shy of the top spot in Division 1, his round of 75 was more than enough to secure first place in Senior Division 1. Howard made two birdies on the day to go along with 13 pars and five bogeys.

Anthony Stout finished second in the division with a round of 84. Stout’s round was highlighted by a birdie on the par three 11th hole.

Division 2 – Joe Hamacher staved off a late charge by Mark Blankenship, using seven straight pars to close his round of 72 to win Division 2. Hamacher shot one under par on the front nine before a bogey on the par three 11th hole brought him back to level par on the day.

Blakenship made two birdies in his final six holes but a double bogey on the par three 15th hole put him two shots behind Hamacher. A birdie on the par four 17th hole brought Blankenship within one shot.

Bob Grove finished third with a round of 76 as Jonathan Pruitt and Derek Godfrey finished tied for fourth place with rounds of 78.
