The Amateur Players Tour-Atlanta kicked off the 2024 Season on The Mountain Course at Mirror Lakes Golf Club in Villa Rica, GA. Players from four different chapters compete for nearly $3000 in total prizes. The weather was great with a comfortable temperature and a little bit of wind.
In Division 1, Charles Hartley started off where he left off in the 2023 season. Charles posted a score of 78 to take a one-shot victory over Jantzen McDonald and Andrew Echard. Charles was able to rebound from a late mistake on the 15th hole with a birdie on the very next hole. Charles was awarded the trophy and the $190 Visa Gift Card.
Division 2 was a battle all round long with three different players holding the lead at one point. James Heath, from the Kentucky Chapter, ended up on top of the leaderboard after playing the final four holes in even par. James posted an 81 to take the victory by two shots over James Teston. James Heath was awarded the trophy and the $150 Visa Gift Card prize. Congrats James.
In Division 3 there was another tight battle at the top of the leaderboard. Steven Smith was able to stay steady through the day and keep the big numbers off the scorecard. Steven posted an 84 to take a one-shot victory over Matthew Patterson. Steven was also able to take the victory in the Sr Net Tournament with a score of 72. Steven was awarded trophies for both contests and a Visa Gift Card in the amount of $440. Congrats on the big day, Mr. Smith.
Division 4 was won by Z Zelkowski visiting from the Birmingham Chapter. Z posted an 85 to take a five-shot victory over Johnathan Hunt. This was the first victory for Z on the Amateur Players Tour. Z is off to a great start to the 2024 season. Z was awarded the trophy and the $250 Visa Gift Card. Congrats on the victory.
Doug Gibbs, the 2023 Division 5 Player of the Year, had a successful start to defend his title. Doug posted a score of 95 to take the victory by two shots. Doug stayed steady on the day with four total pars. Robert Kidd took second place, posting a score of 97. Doug was awarded the trophy and the $210 Visa Gift Card. Congrats and the great start to the season.
Next up for the Atlanta Chapter is a new venue of the tour. Brookstone Country Club will host us on December 16th, 2023. Tee Times will begin at 10:00 AM and registration is open on The Amateur Players tour website.
