East TN’s first event in 2024 took place at Island Pointe golf club in Kodak, TN. Saturday 30 March.  The weather was beautiful and warm, and we were playing on one of the greenest courses I’ve seen so far this year. Challenging is what it became as winds started blowing and gusting making it even more difficult to hit the greens (or miss the water).

Division 1 Had a back-and-forth battle on the front nine as we had 4 different leaders in the first 6 holes and all players were within two shots after 9 holes.  As the wind picked up though it was Tim Saunders’ steady play as he carded a back nine 34 to shoot even par for the day and the win.  Nashville’s Ramsey Kimbrough was runner up shooting a back nine 37 that included the only eagle of the day.

In Division 2 we had a close field on the front nine and it got even closer with 2, and then 3 players tied through parts of the back nine. As the course became more difficult Jimmy Pierce held his own and went on to shoot an 82 and collect his first win in his 3rd start with the APT. Runner up was Tommy Lee two strokes back at 84.

Division 3 had a couple newcomers to the APT start strong this event (Jason Dale and Greg Lewis).  Dale led through 9 with a 41 ahead of Daniel England’s 42.  Things were neck and neck with one stroke separating Dale, England, and Lewis through 14.  Dale stumbled with few late double bogeys and Lewis also took a couple doubles as the wind was increasing. With England leading by two, he tripled the last while Greg Lewis finished par, par for the win with a score of 84 for his first start and win. Daniel England finished second with an 85.

Division 4 had four players fairly close on the front nine, shooting 44, 45, 46 and 47, Tyke Stogsdill leading the way ahead of Andrew Larsen.  Rodney Oden took over the lead the beginning of the back nine but the wind derailed some of his lead and Paul Harris after shooting a front nine 47 came back from 3 strokes back and tied for the lead on 18.  Oden and Harris both finished with an 89 and Harris won the playoff on the first playoff hole.

Division 5 only had two competitors with previous year member Dustin Fenker shooting a 98 for the win in the blustery elements.

SR NET was won by Paul Harris with a net score of 75.
