The Atlanta Chapter of the Amateur Players Tour hosted its Local Final at Bridgemill Athletic Club on September 9th, 2023. Players were not only playing for significant points for Player of the Year honors but also for over $2700 in prizes.

Charles Hartley knew exactly what he needed to do to win the Player of the Year in Division 1. Charles needed a two-way tie for 2nd place or better to secure enough points to gain those honors. Charles started the day off with a birdie and made the turn at one under to be clear of the field by three shots. Charles was able to stay steady and secure the victory and Player of the Year honors.

Division 2 was won by a career low round from Jantzen McDonald who posted the only under par round of the day with a 71. Jantzens round included five birdies and four bogies. Congrats Jantzen on the victory. James Davis was able to secure enough points to win the Division 2 Player of the Year award. James used three victories and four other runners up finishes to put together a solid 2023 season.

Division 3 was a close battle all round long with a playoff needed to crown a champion. Austin Godfrey and Steven Smith posted rounds of 85 to get into the playoff. Three other players made late bogies to keep them one shot from the playoffs. Austin and Steven played hole 10 to start the playoff, which is a dog leg left par 4 with a tucked pin in the back left. Austin was able to make a bogey to take the win in the playoff over Steven. Congrats Austin on your victory. The Division 3 Player of the Year honors went to Shawn Powers. Shawn had two victories on the season with one of those coming at an elevated event. Congrats Shawn on a great season.

Division 4 was a clean sweep for Kip Moore. Kip posted a score of 89 to take the victory by one shot over Johnathan Hunt. Kip has had one of the most consistent seasons in Division 4 on the entire tour. Kip racked up five victories and eight other second place finishes. Congrats Kip on the wonderful season and good luck at the North American Championship in a few weeks.

Division 5 was a runaway victory for Bill Ryan who posted a score of 91 to take the victory. Robert Kidd finished in second place with a score of 96. This was Bill’s third victory of the season in seven events played. Congrats Bill on the victory. The Division 5 Player of the Year Award went to Doug Gibbs. Doug used four victories, two being at elevated events, to secure the title. However, the highlight of the season came from Doug with a hole in one on a Par 4 at Legacy earlier in the season. Congrats Doug on a great season.

Next up for Atlanta is the North American Championship where we have a solid group traveling over. Then in October, it’s the first playing of The Iron Peach. The Iron Peach is a Ryder Cup style event where four players per division qualified based on points. These matches will be played each season vs Birmingham, with this season being played at Horse Creek in Dora, AL.
