2023 American Dunes Golf Tournament Results

[read_time]

American Dunes Golf Club stands as a unique and inspiring destination, seamlessly blending the art of golf with a deep reverence for American patriotism. Designed by golf legend Jack Nicklaus in collaboration with Lieutenant Colonel Dan Rooney, founder of the Folds of Honor Foundation, this course goes beyond fairways and greens. With its meticulously crafted layout paying homage to pivotal moments in American history, each round becomes a journey through the nation's story. As you walk the course, you'll experience the fusion of sport and service, where every swing is a tribute to the brave individuals who have defended the United States of America.

In Division 1, Matt Minder secured a commendable 3rd place, finishing with a total score of 16 over-par. Throughout the tournament, Minder showcased his skill with 3 birdies and an impressive tally of 22 pars. Barney Sutley, hailing from Frankfort, KY, earned a notable 2nd place finish, recording a score of 12 over-par across the two rounds of tournament action. The Division 1 champion was claimed by none other than Jack Wetzel. Demonstrating exceptional prowess, Wetzel conquered the demanding American Dunes course with a remarkable performance of just 1 over-par after the competition of two rounds.

In Division 2, Rick Knepp, Jason Tatum, and Tyler Moore tied for 3rd place, each carding a score of 22 over-par throughout the duration of the Two-Day Major event. In the Open Competition, Phil VanGeersdaelen secured an impressive 2nd place finish with a cumulative score of 19 over-par. VanGeersdaelen was also crowned Division 2 Senior Champion, his first National Major Victory. The title of Division 2 Champion was claimed by Christopher Jones. Throughout the two-day tournament, Jones showcased remarkable consistency, carding a score of 18 over-par. His performance was highlighted by 3 birdies and an impressive tally of 21 pars across the competition's duration.

In Division 3, Oak Lawn's own Ryan Mraz clinched a commendable 3rd place finish, displaying a score of 24 over-par across a span of two days. A riveting contest unfolded on the 36th hole of action, featuring a head-to-head showdown between Rick Williamson and Christian Benevides. The duo remained tied as they approached the 18th tee. In a strategic move, Williamson opted for a cautious approach on the short par 5, electing to lay up and shoot for par. In contrast, Benevides pursued the birdie, only to face the consequences. As the final hole reached its conclusion, Benevides grappled with a triple bogey, while Williamson secured a composed par. This pivotal turn of events crowned Williamson as both Division 3 and Division 3 Senior Champion, a testament to his impressive performance over the course of two remarkable days of play.

In Division 4, Robert Lawless maintains his presence atop the leaderboard. Lawless navigated the challenging terrain of the firm and fast American Dunes Course, securing a score of 40 over-par. In a closely contested performance, Jeremy Conetah from Roosevelt, UT emerged just one stroke ahead of Lawless. Conetah delivered a strong showing, recording a total of 39 over-par across the span of the two-day contest, ultimately clinching a noteworthy 2nd place finish. Reigning supreme in Division 4, as well as Division 4 Senior, was the skilled Mark Jones. Jones showcased his ability by carding a remarkable 33 over-par on the demanding Folds of Honor course, solidifying his place as the champion in both contests.

In Division 5, Brodi Strong secured a commendable 3rd place finish, recording a score of 58 over-par. David Densieski from Manorville, NY, achieved a score of 52 over-par throughout the two-day contest. Noteworthy, however, is Don Hubbard, who celebrated his inaugural triumph on the National Major stage. Hubbard's performance saw him shoot 47 over-par, solidifying his status as both the Division 5 and Division 5 Senior Champion.

Next stop on tour is Chambers Bay Golf Course. Nestled along the stunning shores of Puget Sound, Chambers Bay Golf Course stands as a captivating masterpiece, seamlessly integrating nature's grandeur with the art of golf. This renowned course, located in University Place, Washington, has become an emblem of both challenge and beauty, drawing golf enthusiasts and professionals alike. Its undulating fairways, strategically placed bunkers, and panoramic views create an unforgettable playing experience. Chambers Bay's significance extends beyond its awe-inspiring layout; it has hosted several notable events that have left an indelible mark on the world of golf. From the 2010 U.S. Amateur to the 2015 U.S. Open Championship, this course has witnessed golfing history in the making, solidifying its place among the most revered courses on a global scale.
