Winter Classic at TPC Las Vegas Results
The Las Vegas APT Chapter kicked off the 2022 season hosting the Winter Classic at TPC- Las Vegas this past weekend. This is the first APT tournament for new chapter owners, Kreg Klaver and Hendra Wijaya.
The field was stacked with players from all over the country competing on a golf course where the pros practice and play. The weather was spectacular the entire weekend, which lead to great scoring opportunities.
Division 1 Champion – ANDREW YEH [70,76]
Division 1 had a list of some great players with Andrew getting out to a great start on Saturday. Things got a little tight Sunday afternoon, but Andrew was able to hold off Jonathan Minkoff [75,73] for a two-shot victory. Michael Membrilla [74,77] finished third and Jarod Thayer [76,76] finished fourth.
Andrew is a very steady player and will be competing at several APT events this year, as he has his sights set on winning the National Championship in Nashville.
Division 2 Champion – THAI HONG [83, 80]
Competing against 26 other players, Thai was able to hold off second place finisher, Ryan Purdy [85,79] for the 1 shot victory. Northern California APT Chapter owner, Matt Fegley [84,81], and Tony Ham [81,84] tied for third. Thomas Sadorf [70,87] and George Wolf [83,83] tied for fourth.
Playing out of the Arizona APT Tour, this was Thai’s first ever event on the APT tour and he travels back with the victory. During his post tournament interview, Thai stated he “can’t wait to tee it up again at TPC- Las Vegas”.
Division 3 Champion – SHANNON LESTER [83,85]
Competing against 23 other players in his flight, Utah APT member, Shannon Lester, played from behind starting Sunday to chase down Saturday night leader’s Kody Conover [82,87] and Ernie Alaan [82,88]. Conover finished second and Allan third. Lenin Gali [85,87] from Northern CA APT finished fourth.
Keys to the victory for Shannon was keeping the ball in play and paring two of the toughest holes #17 and #18 to close things out. Division 3 needs to watch out for Shannon when he tees it up in March at the legendary Sand Hollow Resort for the 2022 Red Rock Championship.
Division 4 Champion – Superstar Las Vegas golfer CRAIG GOLENO [88,89]
Craig started the day with a 3 shot lead and extended it with steady play on Sunday to win over second place finisher and his good friend, Michael Haas [91,97].
Craig said his key to playing TPC-Las Vegas was not making a big mistake and keeping the ball out of the desert. Look for Craig at other APT events this year battling for more Championships.
Division 5 Champion – Las Vegas APT member MICHAEL COSSELMAN [102,89]
Michael started the final round 2 shots back , but put together a solid round on Sunday and cruised to a 7 shot victory over second place finisher Bob Woitalla [100,98]. Taking third was Thruman Hornbuckle [103,96].
Michael said he really enjoys the challenge at TPC – Las Vegas and worked hard on Sunday to stay focused and push himself to the victory. Division 4 needs to watch out as Michael is looking to move up soon. We are expecting more victories out of this Champion this year.
Another of the several reasons why the Amateur Players Tour is by far the best amateur tour in the World. We have a Senior Championship inside the regular tour for players 50 and over.
Senior Net Champion – CRAIG GOLENO [88,89]
Talk about making it a “clean sweep” taking home both crystal trophies along and gift cards, Craig absolutely made it an epic weekend at TPC- Las Vegas, winning the Senior Net division.
Congratulations Craig on the special weekend!
APT – Las Vegas would like to thank all the players who competed this weekend. We appreciate your professional character and look forward to next years Winter Classic. We also want to thank all our great local and national sponsors and the staff at TPC-Las Vegas for taking great care of our tour members. You all ROCK!!
