Windyke CC in Memphis, TN welcomed the Memphis/Mid-South APT to their famed East Course on Monday, April 4, 2022. Great weather and great course conditions met our 54 players from four different APT chapters!
Division 1 was a tight battle all day between Atlanta Chapter Owner Derek Nicholson and Memphis member “Magic” Mel Davis. Davis used a key birdie on hole #17 to pull one stroke ahead of Nicholson and held on for the win with a par on #18. Davis finished the day even par (72) for the one stroke win over Nicholson. Josh Caldwell came in third only one stroke out of second with a plus 2 (74).
Division 2 saw our first of two playoffs for the day. Terry Szymczyk of Birmingham made an eagle on #17 to stand at +3 going to his last hole. Memphis member Jeff Avant made a clutch birdie on #18 to finish the day +4 (76). With Szymczyk’s bogey on #18 the two entered into a sudden death playoff. After both players made bogey on #1, Avant came out victorious with his bogey on #2. Memphis member Jack Ross finished 3rd with a 77.
Division 3 was decided late in the round as well, as Memphis member Neil Adams closed out his great round of +9 (81) for the 2 stroke win over John Gathings (83) and Travis Gullick (83).
Division 4 saw a repeat of previous events as Aundra Miller and Jason Bucher battled neck and neck all day for the win! Miller finished with a nice +14 (86) and Bucher finished 3 shots back with a +17 (89).
Division 5 saw our last playoff of the day as Don Hamblett of Birmingham made par on the par 4 18th hole to force a playoff with new Memphis member Sean Jacobs. The two shot matching +21s (93) to find themselves back in a sudden death playoff. After both players made bogey on the first hole, Hamblett was able to battle his way to the win on the second playoff hole. Arthur Miller, Jr finished 3rd only 4 strokes back of the lead.
