Pipestem State Park Recap

5/30/21

Division 1 points leader Jerod Ewing led the field with 5 birdies on the day, in route to a 2 shot victory over tour newcomer Carson Proffitt. Pipestem is Jerod’s home course and he did his course proud with an even par round of 72. Matt Tincher and Jordan Duncan tied for 3rd, 4 shots off the pace.

Brandon Thompson played in the skins match on Saturday to get some practice in to prepare for Pipestem, and it paid off in the end. Brandon survived a tight back and forth battle all day in Division 2, to win by 1 shot over visiting tour director from SWVA Anthony Stout, who tied with Garrett Kiser for 2nd

Appalachian Amateur Golf Tour player Andrew Li decided to join the APT family last week, and in his first action of the season wins Division 3 by 3 shots over Claytina Shepherd. Andrew almost withdrew from the tournament that morning due to the bad weather, but showed up and battled the elements in route to a convincing win, pulling away late. Division 3 newcomer Eddie Lilly who was promoted from Division 4 last week, came home 3rd

Division 4 points leader Justin Keaton trailed most of the day, but was able to catch up to Dave Shepperd on hole 15 and take the lead on hole 16, enroute to a 2 shot victory in the unseasonably cool weather at Pipestem. Al Hannah finished 3rd

In a back and forth match all day, Marshall Kiser was able to outlast last week’s winner Joey Fyall to capture his 1st win of the season in Division 5 by 2. Marshall Kiser also won this weeks Senior Net game in a scorecard decision over Al Hannah.

Karen Rainey captured her 1st Women’s Net victory of the season over Debbie Wykle.

Congratulations to all of our winners and thank you to everyone who came out to play. Special thanks to Pipestem State Park for hosting us this Memorial Day weekend.
