UPS – Clemson Walker Results

The Walker Course at Clemson University played host for the APT-Upstate event on May 2nd. The course was in beautiful condition. The weather was fantastic and the competition in all divisions went deep into the rounds before a winner was determined.

Division 1 was a packed leaderboard all day. Although two players did separate themselves from the pack after the front nine. Derrick Oyervides (36-38-74) took the early lead with level par on the outward nine, while Greg Moore (37-34-71) trailed by a shot. Both players traded pars for the next four holes. With Greg closing his round with three birdies in the last five holes, he forced Derrick to try to match. Derrick’s quest would come up short, but solid would be good enough for second. Greg captures his second victory of the season with his one under par round.

Division 2 also saw another week with a tight leaderboard and ultimately another playoff. Five players would find themselves in the heat of the battle for the top three spots. Nick Hinton (40-43-83) and Gabriel Skwara (43-40-83) would come up short on one of the spots. Mark Ballew (42-40-82) played well enough to take third. Judd Dye (38-43-81) caught a bad break on 16 after hitting a solid drive, his ball caught the only wet area on the course and would be caked in mud. Guest player William Eakins (38-43-81) found himself in a tie with Judd after the round. It would take a two-hole playoff to determine our D2 champion. With a solid par on the second hole, William would capture his first APT win.

Division 3, also paying the top three, saw a little more separation at the top of the leaderboard. Bill Russell (45-38-83) made a charge on the inward nine but would have to settle for third. Mike Keffer (39-41-80) would have to settle for second as eighteen proved to be a tough finishing hole. Bill Liebler (41-38-79) captures his first victory of the year by one shot with steady play on the back nine.

Division 4 didn’t see the leaderboard shuffle throughout the day this week as three players separated themselves from the field. Brian Gregor (39-46-83) played steady all day. Brian would have to settle for third losing on a scorecard playoff and just outside the money. Scott Bryant (42-43-85) found himself in the hunt for the win again this week. Scott takes second winning on the scorecard playoff. It only a matter of time before Scott secures a win. Having the discipline not to look at the leaderboard, Jimmy Sullivan (43-39-82) focused on what he could control. After a difficult opening hole, Jimmy righted the ship and played solidly all day. Jimmy secured his second win of the season, winning by three.

Division 5 usually the most entertaining leader board to watch was fairly subdued this week. Bob Russell (42-51-93) took the early lead, but the back nine proved to be his challenge. Bob would have to settle for second. Ted Nicoloff (49-41-90) was able to overcome his 7-shot deficit to win by 3.

Congratulations to all our Walker Course Champions!

We also want to thank everyone for our Pace of Play this week. With public play before and after our tee times, we averaged 4 hours 25 minutes. We never interfered with public play all day and the course thanked us for keeping the day going smoothly for them. That credit belongs to our players.
