Three events remain after the Amateur Players Tour trip to Tamarack Country Club on Sunday. This Pete Dye design brings a park like setting, tree lined fairways, and undulating greens providing a classic test of golf. The weather was perfect, and our players put the good conditions to use and scored well.

Division 1 saw Greg Sanborn and Tyler Fieser do their best to run away from the field. Sanborn went 3 under through the final four holes to secure a one shot victory over Fieser. Sanborn finished the day with a career best round of 65, 6 under par. Adam Gangl finished in 3rd with a 75. The top 4 in points still haven’t changed with Brett Newton leading, followed by Matt Borgmeyer, John Todd and Matt Minder.

Division 2 newcomer, Mike Petty, got his first win since being promoted earlier this season. Petty finished his last 5 holes at even par to claim a one shot victory with a 2 over par round of 73. Scott Klassen and David Adams finished tied 2 shots back with rounds of 75. Steve Hasenfratz moved into the lead in the Player of the Year standings followed closely by Kevin Erxleben. Scott Klassen’s recent solid play has moved him well within striking distance coming down the stretch with Chris Scoles not far behind. The big question in D2 will be how much the lead will stretch out before 3 time winner, Erxleben, returns from injury. There are a lot of factors to make the points race interesting for the remainder of the season.

Our second event in a row where a playoff is required to decide the Division 3 winner, and a familiar face came out on top with Michael Konuch hanging on over Ray Morales for the win. Solid rounds of 80 for Konuch and Morales were followed closely by Ross Richardson and Ronald Polillo tied at 81. The win on Sunday furthers Konuch’s lead in the Player of the Year standings as he currently holds a lead of just over 400 points over Simay Souvannarath and Aaron Gulley.

18 holes was also not enough to decide the winner in Division 4. With Jason Stone and Eric Willingham tied at 83 at the end of regulation, they headed to a playoff where Jason Stone came away victorious. John Cordeal finished in 3rd with an 86 followed by Adam Gulley with an 87. Promotion of the previous points leader moved Jason Stone into the lead in the Player of the Year standings and he capitalized and furthered his lead with the win on Sunday. Stone holds a lead of just under 400 points over Mike Scalera, with Cory Criter and D4 newcomer Michael Adkins following close behind.

Division 5 saw Greg Cobourn return to the winner’s circle for the 3rd time in the 2020 season at Tamarack. Cobourn finished his final 4 holes at 1 over par en route to a final score of 85. Finishing in 2nd place was Sysco Deuanephenh with a round of 91 and in 3rd place was Jim Seibert with a 96. With his win on Sunday Cobourn tightens the race with Jesse Baumann, but Baumann still holds a lead of over 700 points in the Player of the Year race. Every event will be important as Coburn, Lauren Borgmeyer and Brian Mulchek try to catch Baumann in the standings.

Next we head to Cardinal Creek Golf Course, for the first event of the playoffs. As the playoffs begin, the points totals and prize payouts both increase. If you are playing Cardinal Creek we will be reaching out to make sure we have all the information necessary to get everyone onto the base as quickly as possible by being prepared ahead of time. So watch for additional information on that.
