The Amateur Players Tour spent President’s Day Weekend at the newly renovated and beautiful Talamore Golf Resort in Southern Pines, NC. Players enjoyed beautiful weather, a challenging layout, and newly redone deep and penal bunkers at Talamore. 88 players competed for over $5,500 paid out in VISA Gift Cards in a Modified Stableford Format. Players earned 6 pts for an eagle, 4 pts for a birdie, 2 pts for a par, 1 pt for a bogey and lost 1 pt for a double.
In Division 1, Timothy Barto (Charlotte) got off to a hot start in Round 1, earning 39 points to take the first round lead over Ivan Jones (36 pts - Carolina Triad) and Will Morgan (35 pts – Carolina Triad). On day 2, the first group of the day featured some big movers up the leaderboard. Scott Patnode (Charlotte) used a flurry of birdies to earn 43 points, moving up 12 spots into 6th place. Tim Washburn (Carolina Triad) had the round of the day with 45 points to move up 11 spots into second position. Barto had another solid day, earning 34 points to secure 73 points and the victory, earning $685. Washburn finished 2nd, and Ivan Jones rounded out the top 3 with 67 points.
In Division 2, the race was tight as Mac McMillan (Carolina Triad) took the early lead with 28 points on Day 1. Close behind were Vick Tandon (Metro New York – 27 pts.), Christopher Jones (Carolina Triad – 27 pts) and Dave Baca (Virginia Capital – 27 points). Monday would prove to be a shootout as well. The round of the day went to Chad Crawford (St. Louis) who earned 32 points to jump into a tie for 10th. Bryan Wimberly hit a hole in one on the par-3 5th hole on his way to earning 30 points. Chuck Nance (Charlotte) emerged victorious with 30 points on day two to earn a one point win with 55 points and a $685 VISA Gift Card. He edged out James Jones (West Virginia) and Vick Tandon (Metro New York) who each finished one point back with 54 points.
In Division 3, Tyler Phillips (Charlotte) jumped out to an early lead with 24 points on Day 1. Another solid round with 21 points earned Phillips a 1-point victory over Joe Renteria (Virginia Captial), who finished in 2nd with 44 points. Phillips earned a $755 Visa Gift Card for the win, with Renteria taking home $315 for second. Jason Sprinkle (Virginia Capital) finished in 3rd with 40 points to take home a $190 VISA Gift Card.
In Division 4, Eric Seibert (Charlotte) used a hot start to jump out to an early lead (20pts) over Curtis Faison (Carolina Triad). Seibert took his one point lead to 8 on Monday, using solid play and a hole-in-one on the par 3 5th to earn an 8 shot victory and a $610 VISA Gift Card. Rodney Oden (Tennessee East) and Anthony Stephenson (Carolina Triad) finished tied for 2nd with 35 points each.
In Division 5, Jeff Brodsky (Metro Philadelphia) jumped out to an early lead on Day 1 with 9 points, followed closely by Ricky Compton (Myrtle Beach) who finished with 8. Round 2 belonged to local Hector Luna (Carolina Triad), who had a great round with 15 points to jump from 5th to 1st and earn his first APT Major Victory, earning a $540 VISA Gift Card. Jeff Brodsky finished in 2nd with 13 points, while Steve Daniels (Charlotte) finished in 3rd place with 10 points.
Each champion at Talamore has earned priority exemption status for the 2022 North American Championship to be played in Nashville, TN October 10-12 as well as the 2023 North American Championship. Congratulations to our champions!
Players could opt-in for an optional blind-draw net fourball stableford competition for $10/entry to compete for some great prizes from our sponsors.
