Peninsula Club Results

[read_time]

Peninsula Club, always a player’s favorite, hosted the Amateur Players Tour – Charlotte on Monday April 19th. The weather was just about perfect for golf. As always, the greens were about as pure as you’ll see at any course in the area.

Division 1 saw many respectful rounds throughout the day, but the tone was set early by a few of the players. With three players within two stokes at the turn, the day would be determined by who could make the right decisions at the right time. Brian Parker (35-37-72) gave up two shots on 15-16 and got one of them back with a nice closing birdie on 18 which was good for 3rd place. Scott Patnode (36-35-71), having changed his putter and putting stroke the day before the Carolinas Mid-Am this past weekend, got off to a rough start. Scott was able to right the ship and played solid for the rest of the day. But would have to settle for second. The day belonged to Daniiel Jackson (33-37-70). Daniel set the tone for the day birding the first two hole of the day. The back nine was a bit more challenging for our champion. With a potential playoff on the horizon, Daniel birdied the last hole to secure the win.

Division 2 was a race for position 2-6 as CJ “Back to Back” Beatty (34-38-72) cruised to victory winning by 3 shots. J Combs (36-39-75), Carolina-Triad co-owner, secured second with a solid round. Wesley Jones (36-40-76), had a late double, which shouldn’t take away from his good play, takes third. There was a five-way tie for three spots left in the money, the back nine scoring would be needed to settle the log jam. Brandon Mabe (38-39-77), Scott Dixon (37-40-77), Bill Cauthen (37-40-77), Josh Johnston (37-40-77) and Seth Hawkins (36-41-77) needed multiple tie breakers to determine the last three spots.

Tie breakers are determined in the following manner per USGA rules.
Green numbers in the grid below shows the tie break.

Division 3 is usually a tight contest, but this week was little different as most players found themselves competing for valuable Play of the Year points. Patrick Rogers (40-41-81) takes 6th beating Ronnie Frames (37-44-81) on a scorecard playoff. Justin Boyd (40-39-79) takes 5th with solid play throughout the day. Scott Shealy (36-42-78) from the Columbia Chapter finishes in 4th. John Jarrell (36-41-77) takes third in a scorecard playoff with AJ Allmendinger (37-40-77) who takes second. The day belonged to “Big” Mac McMillian (32-42-74) with a stellar front nine score. Mac had the magic working with his wedges, chipping in for birdie on hole 3 and holing out from the fairway on the short par 4 5th hole for eagle.

Division 4 continued with the theme of the day, tight contest for positions 2-4 with separation from the winner. Tom Phillips (38-49-87) takes 4th place. Ben Gilbert (35-51-86) takes third. Roy Santonil (44-41-85) had opportunities to catch the leader but must settle for second. Matt Miller (43-39-82) was able to turn his round around on the back nine to secure his first win on Tour this year.

Division 5 saw the oldest player on tour win. Our winner must have known it would be his day as he broke out the camera on the first tee. Llyod Morris (47-52-99) at 83 years young, beat the field by two.

Congratulations to all our winners! Thank you to all the members for making this a great day!
