Northland Golf Championship Results

It was a beautiful, sunny 84 degrees with a light breeze this weekend at the Northland Championship at Tiffany Greens Golf Club.  With some fresh rain Thursday night, the course was in great shape and in scoring condition with receptive greens and lush fairways, and the scores reflected that!

D1 was basically a 2 horse race between JR Munson and Jacob Bruhn when it got to the back 9.  JR and Jacob's scorecards couldn't look any more different though.  With Jacob sprinkling in birdies and eagles, but tossing in some doubles to go along with it, JR was just putting pars on his scorecard.  Both players shot 77 and ended up in a 1 hole playoff, with Jacob finding the water on his 2nd shot into the par 5, and JR making yet again, another par to take the win and the points lead for the season.

D2 saw two players start off with eagles on the first hole, but only one of those players would find that form again.  A name you see regularly at the top, Alex Fortuna started off eagle - birdie...but would then go 7 over in his next 7 holes.  He'd eventually get his head wrapped around it, and started playing more like what we're used to, and then he ripped off 3 birdies on the last 4 holes to shoot an impressive 75 and take the win by 4 strokes.

D3 had a bunched leaderboard at the top all day, with 10 players within 4 strokes of the leaders. Scott Wroubel was set to take the clubhouse lead, but a 3 putt on 18 put him one stroke behind Tyler Reynolds, who carded an impressive 80 and was the current clubhouse leader.  Vito Pisciotta tossed in a couple birdies at the end to give himself a small lead going to 18, which he was able to hold onto and take the win shooting an impressive 79.

D4 was very similar to D3 in terms of a bunched up leaderboard and some great scores.  Chris Hubbard, Ray Krueger and Jim Reeves all finished T3 with 87's, but it came down to Allen Strausbaugh and Matt Thorman.  Allen had a short putt on 18 to send it to a playoff, but couldn't convert and had to settle for 2nd place with a great score of 85 and opening the door for Matt Thorman to get his first win of the season with an 84.

D5 had a runaway winner this weekend.  Alex Larson carded one of his best rounds ever and took the field by storm, winning by 7 shots over David Szczucinski.  Alex would post an 86 and he was ecstatic about his play, and rightfully so.  Great job Alex!

Up next is our season championship at Stone Canyon!  Don't wait to sign up!
