Muscle Shoals Golf Tournament Results

Birmingham, Memphis and the Nashville chapters hosted the two-day event at The Shoals in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.  The Shoals is a 36-hole venue comprised of two courses: Fighting Joe and Schoolmaster. Members from six different chapters travelled from across the southeast to compete for year-long bragging rights, trophies and gift cards. 

In Division One, Ed McDugle (Memphis) captured a one-stroke lead after day 1 on the strength of 3 straight birdies near the end of his round.  Connor McKelroy (Birmingham) and Cary Anderson (Nashville) both finished off there day 1 rounds with +3 75. 

Day 2 was a battle to the final hole. McDugle held the lead for most of the round, but finished in a tie for 2nd place along with Anderson, who posted back-to-back rounds of 75.  Mckelroy posts an even par round of 72 to win by 3 strokes. 

In Division Two, Phillip Roberts (Memphis) posted five birdies and shot +1 73 to take a one-stroke lead over Terry Szymczyk (Birmingham), who posted +2 74 after day 1.  Jerry Burrell (Tennessee East) lurked two strokes back with his opening round +3 75. 

Szymczyk posted the 2nd best round of the division on Sunday to capture the three-stroke victory over Tim Miller (Birmingham) who came from 4th place to shoot +4 76, the low round within the division of Sunday, to take 2nd place by one stroke over Burrell, who posted +6 78 on Sunday. 

In Division Three, Brett Dalton (Carolina Triad) took the overnight lead by two shots with a +7 79.  Jason Harbin (Birmingham), who held the lead most of the day, finished his opening round with a +9 81.  Sitting in 3rd, Aaron Smith (Nashville) finished his last five holes in 1-under to post +10 82.  Two Nashville Chapter players, James Newkirk and Paul McGee hold a share of 4th place with rounds of +11 83. 

Dalton held onto and increased his lead on day 2 to win 7 strokes over his nearest competitor.  Dalton shoots +4 76.  Newkirk improved his standing with a +7 79 to finish in 2nd place.  Harbin takes home 3rd place with +10 82 on Sunday.  Three-way tie for 4th place between McGee, Smith and Ande Jones (Birmingham). 

In Division Four, Hunter Smith (Nashville) was battlefield promoted from Division 5 and lead by 4 strokes with is round of +11 83 on day 1.  Kenneth Robbins (Birmingham) finished the opening round with a +15 87 and sat in 2nd place.  Two players, Danny Daniel (Birmingham) and Larry Sumner (Nashville), are tied after their rounds of +19 91. 

Smith captured the win with his Sunday round of +18 90 to win by five strokes over hard-charging John Mangels (Nashville) who posted +12 84 to take 2nd place.  Daniel held on to 3rd with his round of +16 88. 

In Division Five, the day 1 leaderboard was tight with Andy Morris (Nashville) leading the way with his round of +17 89.  Cooper Melvin (Birmingham) finished one-stroke back with his +18 round of 90.  Two other Nashville members, Thurman Boyd and Hutson Smith, are tied for 3rd place with their rounds of +19 91. 

Boyd vaulted his way up the leaderboard from 3rd place to secure the win with his round of +15 87 to win by 5 strokes over day 1 leader, Morris, who posted +22 94.  Smith finished where he started the day and takes 3rd place with a round of +23 95. 

In the Senior Net competition, Cary Anderson (Nashville) posts net even par over two days to win by two strokes over Division 2 Mid-Am winner, who finished one stroke back.  James Newkirk finishes two strokes back in 3rd place.
