Kenmure Golf Tournament Results

The Amateur Players Tour-Upstate Chapter played in the mountains of North Carolina at Kenmure Country Club in Flat Rock..

This Joe Lee design is something special in the Blue Ridge Mountains at Kenmure. From breathtaking course views to the stunning beauty of the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains, it’s no wonder that this private golf course is top rated.

The course is in excellent condition from tee to green. The members and staff were accommodating and welcoming to our members and players as they were treated to one of the best courses in the region.

Division 5 saw Stephen Herbert (43-50-93) and Bob Russell (44-49-93) battle it out all day. Stephen would make the turn one up on Bob after nine. Both players would trade for the lead heading into the difficult final 4 holes of the course. Trailing by a single shot entering the final stretch of the course, Bob was able to catch Stephen. With both players finishing tied and not enough light to have an on-course playoff, we went to the scorecard to settle the tie. Following USGA rules for tie breakers, Bob would take first place having the better back nine score.

Division 4 had a gaggle of players bunched on the leaderboard after the first nine. Jimmy Sullivan (46-45-91) had his rock rolling as he entered the final three holes. While Jimmy thought his chances at any money may have slipped by, he beat Tracey Tullie on the scorecard playoff for third place.  Tracey Tullie (42-49-91) leaking oil coming into the home stretch was able to find a little magic on 18 with a par to secure solo fourth. Richard Massey (48-42-90), would not have been one of those players bunched on the leaderboard on his front nine. Richard must have found a little something in the swing as he entered the back nine as he was able to limit his dropped shots to just bogie and good enough for second. Ben Wylie (40-46-86) was the hot player as he separated himself from the others on the front nine. Ben was able to manage his game well enough on the back nine to secure a four shot victory and the win.

Division 3 saw four players seperate themselves from the field on the front nine. Bill Russell (40-43-83) would have a solid front nine and appeared in control until the last three holes would derail his chance at a victory. Bill would settle for solo fourth. Doug Dietz and Dan Ahlers (39-43-82) would also find themselves near the top of the leaderboard after nine holes. Dan would limit his dropped shots to bogey and a couple late bogies on 17-18 would put him in a scorecard playoff with Doug. Doug Dietz (40-42-82) finding himself only a shot off the lead late into the back nine would also drop a few in the last few holes. Doug would take second place money on the scorecard playoff while Dan would take third. Chad Harrington (39-41-80) would be at the top of the leader most of the day. Playing solid all day, Chad could have let a triple on 17 derail a good day. Instead Chad would have a nice bounce back birdie to end his round and secure his second victory of the season.

Division 2 was a typical tight leaderboard all day. Three players would establish themselves as the players to beat. Wesley Jones (39-39-78) continues his consistent play. Wesley put himself in good position for the win, but would stumble on 17-18 and settle for third place. Joe Hamacher (37-38-75) found himself +1 through 16 with a single bogey in the card. Joe wasn’t able to figure out the riddle of 17 and 18 although limited the damage to only bogies. Joe would come up a shot short and take solo second. Bobby Ream (37-37-74) would get off to a hot start at -1 after five. Bobby would add two more birdies and to go out at +1. Bobby again would add two birdies at 15 and 16 to take the lead back entering the final two holes. Dropping only one shot on 17 and 18, Bobby would earn the victory with 5 birdies on the day.

Division 1 Saw four players in position to win. Matt Moore (35-41-76) set the pace early after nine at -1 but would fall off as the holes ticked away. Scott Patnode (35-40-75) with a new set of irons would also put himself in position at -1 after nine yet found himself tied for second after 18. Thomas Owens (37-38-75) kept in touch with the leaders all day with consistent play. Thomas would take second, winning the scorecard playoff with Scott. Keeping the recap as short as Dan Constantino’s (36-37-73) backswing, Dan would par the first 10 holes. He would play 11-16 at +2 as he entered 17 and 18 which gave the field fits all day. Dan figured out the puzzle of the two holes going birdie-par to secure his third win of the season.

Thank you to all our members and guests, representing six different APT Chapters, for joining us at Kenmure Country Club!

Thank you Kenmure, their members and their staff for welcoming the Amatuer Players Tour and helping us make this event a success while showcasing the course.
