KC – MidMO Challenge Golf Tournament Results

With over 3.5” of rain in the past 4 days, we knew conditions would be tough on the course.  Luckily the weather cooperated with us, and we had mild temps, a light breeze, and some sunshine to finish off a great event at Mules National Golf Course for the MidMo Challenge.  Players from Kansas City, Columbia, Springfield, Topeka, St Louis and Iowa all came down to complete a field of 88 players for this fantastic golf course!

In Division 1, Jacob Dittmer looked like he was going to run away with it, playing solid golf all day long.  But he wasn’t aware that Larry Langley and Corey Buford were creeping up on him in the background.  Jacob continued to play solid golf, while Larry lost a little energy and stumbled the last few holes, finding the water twice on the 18th green.  Corey Buford started slow, with 3 bogeys in a row, but bounced back on the back 9 shooting a 1 over 36 on the back, and 4 over on the day.  Jacob finished with a bogey after finding the island green off the tee on 18, to shoot a 1 over 71 and take the win by 3.

Division 2 was full of fireworks coming down the stretch!  After 16 holes, Tyler Reynolds had a 2 stroke lead over Chris O’Dowd and a 3 stroke lead over Cole Lehman.  An untimely triple bogey at the 17th for Tyler, and a water ball off the tee on 18 for Chris meant Chris was one back of Tyler in the clubhouse.  Tyler needed to par 18 to have the clubhouse lead, and he did just that, leaving it up to Cole to par for the playoff.  Cole found the green, and a solid two putt saw him and Tyler go back to the 18th tee and try it over again.  Cole found the center of the green, pin high 20’ to the left, while Tyler’s ball found the water.  Tyler hit his next shot 15’ short of the pin, and Cole cozied up his first putt for an easy tap in and the victory.

Division 3 was a great battle between home course favorite Matthew Morgan and Brian Lunt out of Kearney.  Matthew had a one shot lead after the front 9 shooting a solid score of 5 over par.  A double on the 11th for Morgan, and back to back pars to start the back for Lunt meant Lunt had the one stroke lead.  Morgan finished the back 9 with only one more bogey, while Lunt faltered a bit with a double on 12 followed by a few bogeys.  Lunt would ultimately fall short of Morgan, carding a still impressive 81, but Morgan came out victorious with an 8 over par 78.

Division 4 was a rollercoaster!!  Kyle Bauer led after the front 9 at 5 over par, with Todd Gurss and Chris Young right on his heels at 6 over par.  The back 9 was a wild ride for some of these guys!  Andrew Zeigler was 3 back at the turn, but while the others struggled on the back 9, Ziggy found his groove and carded an impressive 6 over par back 9, while, Young, Gurss and Bauer carded a 10 over, 11 over and 12 par respectively to make Ziggy a back to back winner on the APT!

Division 5 was another Paul Orovets show!  Even in the wet conditions, Paul was able to maintain his cool and keep Leroy Barnes and Rocky Metcalfe in his rear view mirror all day.  Paul had a couple stumbles on the back 9, but had built a solid lead on the front 9 with 7 over par, and was able to keep his chasers at bay.  Like Ziggy, this makes Paul another back to back winner on tour this season!  Paul is looking forward to hopefully moving up to D4 as his game steadily improves!

We’re off next weekend, but on the 22nd will be at the always great Adams Pointe Golf Club in Blue Springs, MO for another sold out field of 88 players!
