The IW Building Supply Open was held at Grande Dunes Resort on Sat. July 17, 2021. We sold out and even got 3 more spots from Club and we put 51 players out to compete. Jason Dipre and his staff at Grande Dunes were amazing and the course was in great shape.
Division 1 we had 9 competitors. Park Williams from Carolina Triad Tour was able to beat our Div 1 Female Ann Marie Costello in a playoff. They both walked off 18 firing a +1 (73). Chris Collins finished 3rd (74) and the ball coach Jim Popp from Charlotte finished 4th. He held the lead most of the day but he said his putter went cold on back 9.
DIV 2 also went to a playoff. We had 11 competitors in this Division. Frank Censullo and Travis Wartluft finished their round at +5 (77) Frank was able to win in the playoff. Don Sheads finished 3rd with Rick Lee and Warren Rennox tied for 4th.
Div 3 had 12 competitors and also went into a playoff. Max Morris and Larry Smothers finished the day at +9 (81). Max held the lead most of the day but said he pulled his hamstring while hitting the ball out of a trap. He was able to finish and went back out for the playoff to capture the win. Tim Frisch was 3rd with Chris Franklin finishing 4. Tom Richards Owner of IW Building Supply came out of retirement and rounded out the top 5.
Div 4 had 7 competitors and Chris Siam played his best round to date to capture the win. He fired an 86. Cooter Douglass a long time friend and one of the funniest men alive, playing in his first event of the year due to having surgery earlier this year was able to fire a 91 and was good enough for 2nd. Jack Pereira and JD Lee finished tied for 3rd at 92.
DIV 5 had 11 competitors and the young 14 year old Alex Franklin, from Upstate played his best round by far and ran away at (84). Look out Div 4!!! Calvin Beckman came in 2nd and Donna Richards playing in her first event wound up in 3rd. Randall Johnson rounded out the top 4.
SENIOR DIVISIONS: We had 32 players Double Dip and it was so competitive. Div 1 Chris Collins beat Jim Popp by 1 shot. Div 2 - Frank Censullo won both Reg and Senior. Div 3 - Max Morris won both as well. Div 4- Chris Siam doubled up and won. Div 5 - Donna Richards Co-owner of IW Building Supply won the crown.
Thanks to all that played.We were able to pay-out $1660 in Visa Gift Cards and $1100 for Skins and Pins.
