Golf Battle at The Legends Results

The APT 2 Day Regional “Battle @ Legends Golf Resort, presented by: Trusted HomeServices was held on July 31/Aug 1 at the Legends Golf Resort in Myrtle Beach, SC

The Weekend actually started on Friday with a optional Skins Game. There were 4 skins won. Jeff McGirt a D3 player won with our very own Chapter Owner Lee Barton winning 3. Lee took his brand new Srixon X5 irons out of the box and headed to the first tee. He said the irons were amazing and his PXG’s were going in the closet!!  He also decided to roll the 3 skins back into the pot for the weekend. “By The Players – For The Players”.

Round 1 began on Saturday with 52 players. We played the Mooreland course. Each participant was given at registration a voucher for Breakfast, Lunch and 2 drinks for each day. The course was in great shape to say the least. The weather was nice but was the hottest weekend of the year. Julie and myself rode around and handed out about 270 bottles of water, 120 bottles of Powerade and  Body Armor drinks over the course of the 2 days. We also provided them with a variety of snacks for the weekend as well. The heat took it’s toll on the entire field on Saturday. There was absolutely no wind blowing at all. We had a few scares for sure with several players getting overheated. We were able to complete the round and everyone came in and cooled off and had lunch. Sunday was a little cooler with a little breeze but was still extremely hot and humid. Below are the results for each division.

Div 1 –  At the end of round 1 Ann Marie Costello (+5) held a 1 shot lead over Chris Collins and a 2 shot lead over the eventual Champion Scott Hughes. Scott began the final round trailing by 2 and when they made the turn, he trailed Chris by 1. When they walked off #11 they were all square. Scott made birdie on the par 5 #13 and held on to card his best round of the year on Sunday (70) to capture the crown. He edged out Chris Collins by 2 shots and Ann Marie finished 3rd with Travis Powell finishing 4th and AJ Lee rounding out the top 5.

Div 2 -  8 players began Round 1 with Travis Wartluft firing a 75 holding a 2 shot lead over Chase Shealy, Bobo Ammons and Jimmy Starrett. Chris Conner was 3 back. There were only 5 shots separating all 8 players. Round 2 was equally close. Travis bogeyed 2 of his first 3, Bobo the eventual winner struggled at the beginning making a double on #2 and followed that with a bogey on #3. That opened the door for Chase when he birdied #3.  Chase had a 1 shot lead over Travis and 4 on Bobo and Jimmy. Not sure what happened but Bobo caught fire with birdies on 5,7 and 9 to make the turn at even. He and Chase were tied for the lead and Travis was 1 back. Bobo continued his hot streak with birdies on 11th and 13th holes. Bobo held a 2 shot lead on the 14th hole over Chase. Bobo held on the win by 1 by firing a +2 (73) for a +7 for the 2 days. Chase finished 2nd   (+8) and Travis finished 3rd at +9.

Div 3 - 12 players began play and after Round 1, James (Dodd) Daniels held a 5 shot lead (77).  Dodd said he had 8 one putt greens and got up and down so many times. Jeff McGirt and Tony Skorput were tied at (82) with Max Morris close behind (84).  Max began round 2 seven shots back but came out firing with 3 birdies on the front nine to pull within 1 shot of Dodd. Dodd played steady and ended up taking the crown firing a final round 78 (+7). Max finished 2nd and Jeff Mcgirt took 3rd.

Div 4 – 15 players begin the event and after round 1, Bruce Shively and Alan Reynolds both fired a (84) and held a 1 shot lead over Brandon Long. Jimmy Mathis was 3 back and we had 4 players 5 back. Round 2 was a tight battle all day. When they made the turn Brandon held a 2 shot lead over Bruce. On their back 9, Charlie Ackerman and Todd Garrett caught fire. Todd played his best 9 of the season (37) and Charlie (38). Chris came of his 18th hole all square with Bruce for the lead. Todd had came all the way back (80) to finish 3rd. Charlie and Bruce went to a playoff and Charlie won on the first hole.

Div 5 – 9 players began play on Saturday in Round 1. Travis Shivley (95) held a 3 shot lead over Sweet Pea and a 5 shot lead over Calvin Beckman and Ricky Compton. Sunday proved to be a very exciting day for Div 5. Travis got off to a rough start and after the outward 9, Sweet Pea had a 1 shot lead over Calvin and 2 shot lead on Travis.
