Gateway National Golf Links Senior Tournament Results

[read_time]

On Monday, the St. Louis seniors played the popular Gateway National Golf Links, set with a beautiful view of downtown.  Players enjoyed firm and fast conditions, as temperatures dropped from the weekend heat wave.  40 players teed it up in an 8am reverse shotgun and the scores were good!

In Division 1, Kevin Erxleben kept up with his hot play, earning a 5-shot victory with an impressive 1-over par round of 72 that featured 4 birdies and a near hole-in-one on the 12th hole.  Geff Dunn and Greg Lewis tied for second with rounds of 77.

In Division 2, Scott Horton returned to the winners circle with a solid 5-over par round of 76 in the most competitive division of the day.  5 players shot 77 to tie for second place just one shot back of Horton.  Billy Davis, Jason Carpenter, Kent Van Cleve, Lance Davidson, and Jim Billadeau each finished just one shot back in a log jam for second position.

In Division 3, Simay Souvannarath returned to Victory Lane, holding off Mark Paul by one shot shooting 85 to earn the victory.  Brian Chilton finished in 3rd just one shot off of the pace.  The win was Souvannarath’s 2nd win of the 2022 season, and first since the senior event at Far Oaks in May.

In Division 4, 18 holes would not be enough to crown a champion.  Michael Scoles and Dave Draucker were tied at the end of regulation.  Draucker came up clutch on the first playoff hole on #1, saving par to earn his first career victory on the Amateur Players Tour.  Sudakhar Injamuri finished in 3rd place just 4 shots off the pace with a round of 86.

In Division 5, Byron Whitlock took advantage of the day at hand, firing a career best 83 to earn a 4-shot victory over Michael Moynihan, who finished in 3nd with an 87.  Albert Orelt finished in 3rd with a round of 94.  The win was the first of Whitlock’s career on the APT, and Moynihan is knocking on the door for his first win as this is his 5th 2nd place finish in 6 starts on the Amateur Players Tour this season.

From here, the tour moves to an open event at Aberdeen Golf Club on Saturday, followed by a senior event at Crystal Highlands on Sunday.  The player of the year races are heating up, as players are competing for a $7,500 bonus prize pool!
