FarmLinks Golf at Pursell Farms Results

The Amateur Players is by the players for the players and that motto shined through today. The Birmingham Chapter hosted 66 players, from seven different chapters, on Sunday July 18th, 2021 and the always amazing Farmlinks at Pursell Farms in Sylacauga, AL. The conditions were amazing even after the course received over two inches of rain the day before. Great conditions gave players an opportunity to show out.

In Division 1, Jay Austin (Birmingham Chapter) started off with a hole out for eagle to set the tone for the entire day. Jay made the turn at one under par to carry a three-shot lead to the back nine. Jay made two birdies to two bogeys on the back to card a one under par 71 to finish four strokes ahead of (Augusta Chapter Owner) Marcus Maddox. Jay dominated the par 5’s by playing them in three under par for the round.

Division 2 Champion, Tim Miller (Birmingham Chapter), did something that he had never done before. Tim carded a four par 68 to win Division 2 by four shots. Tim’s score of 68 is his career low round in any round of golf he has played. Congrats Tim on the wonder accomplishment. Paul Portwood (Birmingham) carded an even par round of 72. After the round Paul was asked if he could have caught Tim and if Paul would have converted the birdie opportunities that the par fives offered today, Paul could have caught him. Bart Pettus (Birmingham) rounded out the top 3 with a one over par round of 73.

In Division 3,Christian Cox (Birmingham) secured his second victory of the year by carding a 77 for the day. Christian recorded five birdies on the day and played the scorable par 5’s in two under for the day. There was a four way tie for second place at 78. Brandon Caterinichia, David Dubose, Jordan Arrighi, and Landon Bertatelli, all from Birmingham Chapter, had their opportunities to capitalize on to either win or force a playoff, but all fell short.

Division 4 was won by Danny Daniel (Birmingham) giving him his third victory of the year. Although carrying a five shot lead into the back nine, Danny stumbled out of the gate but birdied the difficult 13th hole to right the ship. Kenneth Robbins (Birmingham) finished one stroke behind, but a string of four bogeys late in the round, was too much to overcome.

Division 5 looked like it was smooth sailing for Terry Hodge after the front nine when he posted his lowest nine hole score of 38. However, a back nine 48 allowed the door to open for Jeff Noel (Birmingham) to take the lead. Jeff played the final six holes in two over to take the win by one shot over Terry Hodge.
