Absolutely! The APT is set up for players to travel and play events in other cities and at other golf courses that interest them. Players earn points based on the size of the field they compete against, providing an equitable system to award points at any event you play in the network. All local events are filled based on a first come, first serve basis. The only events that have priority exemption status are the 4 Majors, Senior North American Championship and North American Championship.
Priority exemptions are given to our signature events and championships to players who have earned it through their play in Amateur Players Tour Events. Winners of the North American Championship, Senior North American Championship, National Player of the Year and National Major Winners earn priority exemptions into future events. Local Players of the Year and top finishers in each division on the local level also earn priority exemptions into top tournaments. It pays to play well in your local chapter! For a complete list of priority exemptions, please refer to the Member Manual.
A majority of tournaments are held during weekend days (Saturdays/Sundays). Sometimes local chapters will also hold events during the week (usually Mondays) to gain access to a private club. The full schedule of tournaments, starting times, and other important information are available at amateurplayerstour.com.
Our events are designed to bring a quality, professional run tournament experience for the everyday golfer. Our events are player-focused, with professional scoring, first tee experience, hosted at the best public and private courses across the continent. Top finishers in each flight will win VISA Gift Cards and trophies given to each division champion. All events are governed by the USGA Rules of Golf. All prizing is paid out strictly in accordance with the USGA Rules of Amateur Status. More tournament information can be found in our Member Manual.
All of our prize payouts abide strictly by the USGA Rules of Amateur Status, so playing on the APT will not affect your Amateur Status. We run all of our prizing by the USGA to ensure it conforms with the current USGA rules. If you have questions about your Amateur Status, please contact handicaps@aptgolf.org.
Guests are allowed to play up to two events prior to joining the APT. Guests can only compete for prizes if they have a verifiable handicap and all prizes will be paid out in tour credit, with the first $125 covering membership cost. Guests will not receive VISA Gift Cards as part of a prize package until they become a full-time member.
No. Any player is eligible to sign up and compete on the Amateur Players Tour. While we prefer an active GHIN Index for initial division placement, we will also accept other handicap sources including tournament indexes from other tours. If no active handicap exists, our local chapter owners will work with you to place you in the correct division based on your scores and the distance you normally play from.
No. The APT Tournament Index is comprised solely of your tournament scores on the Amateur Players Tour. The purpose is to create a closed handicap system to properly flight players of equal skill level from similar distances.
The easiest way to view your tournament index or another players is by using the member search feature in the header of the amateurplayerstour.com website. Search yourself or another player and then select their “Profile” and find their Tournament Index.
All Amateur Players Tour events are governed by USGA rules. Each tournaments rules will be posted on the Tournament Information Page, the “Hard Card” will be posted on the Tournament Information Page, and Notice to Competitors will be given to each player on tournament day.
A “National Major” is typically a 2-day, 36 hole event that draws registrants from all across the country. Players earn double player of the year points
(both locally and nationally), and winners in every division earn multi-year priority status for signature majors and the North American Championships. Entries are first-come, first-served at all National Majors except for the 4 Signature Majors, where priority exempt players get priority to register before registration opens to all APT members. Guests are not allowed to play in national majors with the exception of the OCN Fourball event.
Player of the year points are awarded to tournament players in each division based on their order of finish. APT members all compete in a Local Player of the Year race in their local chapter and a National Player of the Year race at the same time.
Local Player of the Year Races are calculated using your:

*Note* – Senior National Player of the Year Races are calculated using the

example, if a player plays 12 one-day events, the standings will reflect their top 8 finishes in those 12 events.

The Championships are 54-hole stroke play events that take place at the end of the Amateur Players Tour season.
